DDJ-RR Microphone Delay!!

Hi

Has anyone else noticed there is an ever so slight delay on the microphone input when using the PC Mix On setting with a DDJ-RR and Rekordbox?

Used it for the first time last night and when I spoke there was a slight delay, it's really off putting when you're trying to speak!

It doesn't do it on the PC Mix Off setting.

Could it be to do with the buffer setting in ms? I prefer using the mic through Rekordbox as it enables me to have the EQ functionality.

Okay, so the reason this happens is the audio from the mic is routed into the software, but there is a bypass switch on the back of the RR to directly route the mic through the hardware instead:

PC Mix (the rear slide switch) is specified as follows:

PIC Mix ON: Send MIC and PHONO/LINE audio to the computer
PIC Mix OFF: MIC and PHONO/LINE audio is not sent to the computer and directly output from the hardware audio output.

Therefore, when PC Mix is off, how high or low the buffer size is, the output audio will not be affected.

Where did you get the RR from?
I've not seen them available anywhere!

I can't Mark - as per my previous post if I move my buffer below 500ms it begins to sound like I've got the Crush effect turned on so this isn't really an option until you guys fix the issues with that.

Unfortunately, I can not personally test this as I do not currently have an RR.

The only thing I can suggest is not running the mic through rekordbox until we can pinpoint the issue.  Can you please provide me with your computer specs?

It's a Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2014 Model, 2.8ghz Intel Core i5 processor with 8gb Ram running El Capitan 10.11.4

I'm going to have to create a support ticket for this.  Maybe the engineers can provide us with a solution.  Is it possible for you to upload a video of the problem so I can forward it to them?  Videos are typically an easier and more efficient method of illustrating a problem than simple text.

Thanks for the official response.
I have worked that out already but doing this I lose the functionality of the microphone EQ which is a big issue.
When are the problems with the buffer settings going to be addressed?

@Ian > It's not a problem with the buffer, it's an inherent delay due to the routing of the audio signal.

Well is that not a massive design flaw?!
What do you plan to do to rectify it?

@Ian > A hardware device which routes audio into a computer and back will take a certain amount of time to do so, regardless of the audio buffer in place (which is there to ensure a smooth and continuous stream of data). Let's say it takes 2ms for the audio to go into the software and back out. Add 5ms for the buffer and you're up to 7ms total.

Unfortunately this is not a design flaw; it's an inescapable function of the system, but lucky for you, the work-around is to bypass the software. I'm sorry by doing so you lose the ability to EQ your mic, but you need to decide which is more important for you. If this was such an important feature, we do offer other models which have EQ on the mic channel.

It's not a design flaw... Is that a joke?? If it's not perhaps you should mention this amazing feature in your advertising for the product!

Your advert for this feature is worded "All rekordbox dj users can upgrade to enjoy new Mic features on the mixer panel including 3-band EQ and Mic FX."
Maybe reword it to include the sentence "unfortunately the audio routing will make this totally unusable"

Perhaps just start including it on the DJM900 NXS2 mixers and see if anyone notices?

I cannot believe that this was not tested before you released it?

@Ian > If you were to route the mic channel of the DJM-900NSX2 through software and back out it would have similar delay, and neither that nor the DDJ-RR mic routing through rekordbox is "unusable."
