CDJ 2000 Nexus controls but no sound

I've been using the rekordbox dj setup since it was released and have had no issues at all until now.

I have a strange problem, all of a sudden, if both decks are connected to my laptop via usb, there is no sound produced at all. It's happened twice at the same venue, their gear is CDJ 2000 Nexus and DJM 900 Nexus 2. The decks seem to be controlling rekordbox fine, and there is audio being produced within rekordbox but, for some reason, it does not make it to the mixer.

I am running windows 10. Not sure if this is a windows update issue or a connection issue.

If I have one deck connected, it works fine through that one deck and audio goes to the mixer like normal. If both are connected ... nothing comes out of either deck but they are still being controlled as normal.

Also, I think it only happens using the nexus decks. Did a gig a few days ago on other gear and everything worked fine.

Please help ... I was singing praises about using rekordbox to the DJ before me and he watched me setup (as I have done for ages now) and it didn't work :(

Are the CDJ's acting as HID for Rekordbox DJ? Also, are the CDJ-2000NXS the original NXS or NXS2?

If the CDJ's are acting as HID controllers for Rekordbox, they won't produce sound–they're basically MIDI controllers. The sound would come through the mixer via External Mixer mode and the USB connection from your computer to the DJM.

Dumb question: have you ensured the Channel Selector Switch for each mixer channel is turned on the proper setting (USB)?

Cheers for the reply. Fairly certain they are just NXS, only the mixer was NXS2 ... and yes, using the decks as HID.

Most places here, haven't upgraded to Nexus gear yet. Previously all I had to do was connect both decks USB to the PC, assign the deck, select CDJ asio, external mixer and boom, all was good.

I naturally thought this was all I had to do with the Nexus gear ... which means, I did NOT have the DJM 900NXS2 connected to my PC. So, I'm guessing here lies the problem?

If I have my head understanding this ... If each deck, and mixer, is connected directly via USB to the PC, essentially the mixer is now acting as the soundcard as well and the decks are strictly controllers? Channel selectors should be set to USB A (for example), Rekordboxdj should be set to DJM 900NXS ASIO and output channels assigned from within the program?

Basically, all gear must be connected to the PC, not just the the decks
