DDJ-SR2 Freezes

Hi,

I've just bought a new SR2 controller this week, but every time I've used it the controller has frozen up on me and has to be restarted (Serato remains stable and doesn't crash). The lights on the controller freeze and Serato pauses until the controller is turned off and on again, when the tracks then continue to play.

I'm running the latest version of Serato and have the correct drivers. My laptop is a Dell 7559 i7 6700HQ with 8GB RAM with Windows 10 64gb and is excellent order, is fully up to date with no issues and with system settings optimised for Serato DJ. My tracks are all saved on the laptop and no other devices are plugged in at the same time as the controller. I've tried different USB cables and ports on the laptop, but the issue happens regardless. I've checked for firmware updates, but the factory version is the only one available.

There appears to be no pattern as to when the freeze happens and it doesn't seem to be related to system resource usage on the laptop (Serato doesn't ever bother the CPU usage of the laptop as it's over spec'd for the job). The only patter is it seems to first happen after around half an hour of usage. After restarting the controller it will then freeze again a short time later.

I've had no issues whatsoever with my DDJ-SB2 or Roland DJ 505 so I'm pretty certain there's a fault with the controller, so I'll be returning it for a warranty replacement unless you have any other suggestions?

Thanks, Rich

Richard Harman

I have the very same problem with my DDJ-SR2. Is there any solution? Upcoming firmware update maybe?

Unfortunately the hardware is unusable for live performances with this bug. :-/

Are you using the SR2 with external power connected, or just off the USB bus power?

It could well be it's not receiving adequate power from your computer over the USB; please try again with the DC adapter and let us know if this still occurs.

I always use the controller with the DC adapter, but the same problem still occurs.

Yeah mines still do the same with the adapter. I’ve updated the firmware and everything, if I can get this problem fixed, everything will be perfect.

Has anyone found an answer to this? My sr2 is brand new. But freezes periodically. I can see serato still reconignizes when play on the controller but does not respond. I have used two different computers and have the same problem on both. Should i just return it and get another one? Or is this a common issue woth all of them?

I switched controllers and got a brand new one at guitar center and it did the same thing. It gotta be something with the controller. It’s something that they’re not telling us. Ik we’re not the only ones having this problem

@Smiley > It's not a common issue that we're not disclosing; there are thousands of SR2's out in the wild and this is pretty much the only topic covering this issue.

Is everyone who is having this problem using a Windows computer?

So update: I can get it to unfreeze by moving the USB buffering latency up and then pressuming standard. I hope that can help narrow down where the problem stems.

I've passed this information to our DDJ product team to get an answer for you. If I need more details, I'll post another reply. Thanks.

@PioneerDJ I dont have NVIDIA Geforce, but I updated my intel hd graphics driver and my controller is still doing the same thing. What else do I have to do?

Took mine back to Guitar Center based on the response by Pioneer. It’s not compatible with Win 10, and they don’t seem to care. Got the Reloop Mixon 4, best decision ever. Thanks for making my decision easier Pioneer!

@Smiley > Do you have another graphics chipset in your computer, or just the Intel one?
