DDJ-1000 prep with flac libraries - Rekordbox to USB for CDJs ?

Hi.

I was considering purchasing a DDJ-1000, for one, I like the controller layout & build quality from what I have seen, but one thing, that first looked like a plus, stumped me thinking about it and I seriously wondered how I would be able to use this:

For easy USB stick prep for CDJs with Rekordbox / DDJ-1000 - how is this advertised feature meant to work for people with flac libraries since CDJs still do not support flac files afaik ?

Is there an automatic flac to wav/alac/aiff/mp3 conversion (that keeps cue points & other track relative data alive) when transferring playlists to USB stick for use on a CDJ  from RB ?

Cheers.

c.

Trying to log on to post took me a good 5 minutes of logging in, 'new post', then being redirected to 404 multipel times or to the product start page while still being logged in, then having to logging out, rinse & repeat for ~10 times until I am finally open to create a thread....

Since many other people seem to have problems with log ins & posting, and it's regularly mentioned on here- yet still no change... it's somewhat starting to feels like Pioneer & Serato are competing against each other about who can set up the most annoying forum barriers so people get discouraged from posting altogether...

Both the CDJ-2000NXS2 and XDJ-1000MK2 support FLAC - in fact, it says so right on the front of the units!

For those using another hardware set, or looking for universality in their collection, we do encourage using other file formats that older players can support - but there is no automatic built-in conversion utility as this would only slow down the export process and users already complain about the amount of time it takes to export files to USB (when that is actually due to the USB drive they use).

I have my library as flac mostly as this is my preferred file format (similar to why the BBC is basing their internal sound libraries & archives on flac these days... it's independent, it's open , it's well tested & with a great feature set), but many places I play at only have CDJs 850 & 900s for which I need to convert things by hand and loose all info in the process  :(

Which is a major downside which I would like to get rid of wjhich I was hoping using RB would have an option around for by now.

But seeing Pioneer does have no solution for the disparate ecosystems they've now created - i.e. that the main Pioneer digital DJ solution is flac compatible as it should be, but some of their most readily available players, like the 850 & 900, do not support the same formats is a pain point I am not keen on.

Oh well, guess I'll wait and stick to my Serato & traktor setup and keep using custom python code for a while longer, which is a shame, as the DDJ 1000 looked very tempting and I liked the idea of being able to push cue data to USB. But itf that only works for a small sub section of Pioneers' media players with flac, then there's no point to really.

Bummer... missed opportunity...

@Chris > With the ever-dropping cost of storage, users aren't really flocking to use a lossless compressed format even if a comparable uncompressed file takes up much more space, especially when it's not as widely supported as other, more popular, formats. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Unfortunately the older players won't be receiving updates to support FLAC due to their DSPs.

Sorry!

I understand that older media players might not be possible to be made compatible with formats that weren;t considered to be add-worthy when thewy came out (but who was shotsighted then...?)... I'm just happy that flac is now popular enough that Pioneer was forced to add it as a format to support now.

But, with Rekordbox being advertised as THE preparation platform for the Pioneer ecosystem and especially for USB sticks to CDJ, not offering a conversion utility in software to work around this disparate feature set that has grown on your own turf, is just that - a missed opportunity... as this just cost you a sale of a DDJ-1000.

Simple as that, as I just cancelled my pre-order I sent off earlier during the week.

Secondly - re forum log in - "Every user who has had issues has been successful in clearing the browser cache and all cookies"

I did this a x-th time now, after having the same issues many times over the last few months, and this time it did not fix it either. Still log-in problems galore, although this time it 'only' took 2-3 minutes of attempts....

Sorry to hear that.

Just for my own information... you've cancelled your order for a DDJ-1000, which requires rekordbox dj to use, which supports FLAC audio files, simply because our older hardware doesn't support that format and we don't provide a built-in conversion utility? Can I ask how often you would go to play in places that have older hardware where you wouldn't be taking your DDJ-1000? And if that's the case, why wouldn't you take the DDJ-1000?

Re: the login, did you remove the cookies for the domains noted? If you still had problems, which browser / browser version / OS are you using?

Urgh... 4 login attempts later. Started at 18:28. It's 18:36 now...

Can you point me to the latest documentation of how "Sync-Manager" is supposed to work to transfer playlists/crates/cues/etc fro RB To USB stick for use in a Pioneer CDJ that does support USB media input  ?!

As to what is on Pioneers'/Rekordbox's website:

https://rekordbox.com/en/products/rekordbox/

States: "

Sync Manager for easy management across all devices

View playlists from multiple software and devices, such as rekordbox/iTunes/USB, and sync to the latest version with one click."

So if I now have a few crates/playlists etc in RB and I want to chuck it on a USB stick, from a library that is primarily flac files (which RB also states is a 'supported' file format).

To state a fictional number, let's say there's 200 flac files, and 100 mp3.

I now go to a few of the radio stations or venues I play at regularly (which all have 1 or more CDJ 850/900 still) with a USB stick with the files from RB, managed through Sync Manager  - how many files will I see on the CDJ 850/900 & will they be intact & with all the info attached to it via the RB DB ?

And as to "why wouldn't you take the DDJ-1000?" - because the whole point is not to lug stuff around... and also, in the country I live in, Pioneer Warranties are 1-year for club/festival/commercial-rental usage, and 3-years for home-use. So guess where the DDJ-1000 would then spend its' live the first 2-3 years...?! Right, at home, prepping USBs for club/radio use where there's a CDJs around, but by nature a mixture of different devices. And let's re-read the advertisement wording :

"Sync Manager for easy management across all devices"

I now could dictate in my rider to only play on CDJ 1000/2000 NXS where flac files are supported.... but, I'd rather not, as this is Pioneers' area of work & expertise to create an ecosystem that works and not create a disparate one that makes things more difficult & cumbersome.

Which is why I was expecting Sync Manager to also take care of conversions to be compatible to Pioneer's own Media Players, that can not and will not ever play flac files as you stated, while still keeping Rekordbox database info intact, which no other 3rd party media converter would be able to....

Get me ?
