Moving Disorganized Files To External HD

Hey,

So I've done this incorrectly a few times. I spend tons of time importing, analyzing adding cue points to files, then i need to move the file because it wasn't anywhere special to begin with, just being recognized from its inclusion in the itunes playlist I was importing/adding cue to & from in Rekordbox.

Now I've got tons and tons of files analyzed but in different folders all over my mac. some in iTunes Media, Downloads folder, folders I make on my desktop when pulling tracks off soundcloud and stuff like that.

So Ive made like 10 itunes playlists that organize the files the best way & I want to free up my mac's harddrive space by placing the individual files all onto my external hd.

I'm weary of the transfer database option as there is no ONE specific location of the files...they're everywhere on my mac.

I tried dragging the files out of the itunes playinst into a folder on my external hd with a corresponding title. Then replacing the itunes playlist with the newly copied files on the HD. Understandably, i lose all analysis and any cuepoints when viewing this newly copied playlist in iTunes.

What is the easiest way to do this??? Im going to try and delete the files from my computer with them recopied on the HD, but even if I can do a relocate all this is a hugely time consuming option as I'll need to track down the original file location of each file in the playlist and delete it, in a lot of cases individually.

Hope someone gets what im describing and can give me some advice that will save me time & analysis/cue point creating time...this time around and not just in the future...

Thanks

@Adam > As @CRSounds says, the best way to do it is the Backup / Restore option, to include the music. That gathers up all the audio files and puts them together in a zip with your database. When you restore, it will prompt you for a destination.

Use the library backup function. When it asks if you want to back up music too, allow it to.  That should be all you need.  The location that it backs up to will have all your music in it.  The paths to all the songs will be followed to pull the songs into the backup.  Then just restore.  Let me know how it goes!
