"meta-request": ability to add comments to requests waiting in engineering

Hi

I would like to be able to add comments to requests that were already been accepted for engineering, but are currently waiting.

However it seems that these threads are always closed immediatly. Some examples:

As per the forum policy, new ideas should go to new threads:
"You are welcome to discuss any suggestions, but please DO NOT post a __new idea__ as a response to another user's topic; post a new topic instead."

So I'm guessing the oppositive is desirable - old ideas should remain in the original threads. Is this the case?

As such, is it the case that adding comments to old ideas required opening a new thread? Is this desired?
