Hi.
I'm writing becouse I recently bought a Macbook Pro, Late 2013. Due to my limited budget and the fact that almost half of the events I have requiere for my to play video I decided to go for a old model but with discrete graphics, in this case with an NVIDIA Geforce 750M with 2GB GDDR5.
As is generally known system and apps tent to benefit from video-specialized hardware, becouse it frees the CPU from video-realeated tasks and improve graphics computational power. That's why I choosed the discrete model, asumming it will boost rekordbox performance and stability.
After installing Mac OS High Sierra and rekordbox video, playback was not performing as expected. During playback image sometimes freeze for less than a second and seeking a video track some times accomplish to freeze GUI also during the same time. The issue dosen't reproduce while forzing use of integrated graphics card (Intel Iris Pro) but due to internal hardware design (external ports a literally wired to GPU), Mac must use discrete graphics when a secondary display is connected, if not no image will display in secondary screen. Since there's no point in having video in build-in screen this wasn't any viable solution.
Pioneer support team couldn't help me. But luckily I found the solution.
SOLUTION: Use alternate NVIDIA drivers for Mac. Also known as Web Drivers.
Some research lead me to the fact rekordbox use OpenGL and documentation says alternate drivers could solve some issues related to this among others, so I tested and it worked.
The solution consist in searching and downloading alternative NVIDIA driver for the specific version and subversion of Mac OS and use that one while running rekordbox video. Here is a page that includes lastest Mac OSs releases:
I post this in order to help someone else who is facing the same issue and also making pioneer team aware of this and ask them if there's any consideration I need to have about using this drivers.
Cheers
