RekordBox Database gone - Possible to restore from export device??

Here's the problem.

I am running Rekordbox 5.2.0 on two different machines - laptop and desktop both running mac os 10.11.6.

Music files are stored on an external HDD  - which is where -  up until last week for some reason - my master database file also resided. This was so i could use rekordbox on laptop and desktop and have the database identical on each machine.

However when i went to export some new playlists containing new tracks, I got the "cannot locate master database". Tried on both machines, same problem. For some reason - probably my own error - the database is gone.

The backup files in users/library/pioneer are no good as I have opened the software more than 3 times since the issue was discovered so all the automatic backup files are too recent to solve the problem.

The playlists etc on my export device (an ssd) are all intact and correct - what I want to find out is if there is a way to restore my master database using the database on the export device.

Any advice much appreciated!

Since Rekordbox5 RB has the ability to import everything back from a CDJ prepared USB. This functionality is not without flaws (the import sometimes forgets the cues/loops which means running it again with the update option)

You'll have to do some trickery to make sure the track files are imported to your external drive (instead of the home folder on your startup drive) but it's doable.

You can see me use it here for an entirely different purpose and you'll also see the error (no cues/loops imported I was talking about and how to correct it)

If your external drive is HFS (+) formatted it's word to check out the hidden Pioneer folder to see if the database is located there (with some relevant backups).
