Clear the entire Search field from the keyboard

Would like to see able to clear the Browser search field using a keyboard key,  either added as default behaviour or an optional shortcut command.

Currently when you type a search item in the field the user can click the 'x' icon which means switching to the mouse or they can delete each character one by one. It would speed up the workflow if it were possible to hit a key to clear the entire search term. The 'Esc' key is commonly used in other programs for this purpose.
