XDJ-RX2 Standalone

All I want to do is play .wav files from a USB stick.

I don't need to curate sets or analyze the BPMs - just put a memory stick in the XDJ-RX2 and load the songs into one of the decks. Does anyone have any quickstart advice on this? I am going through all sorts of manuals and Rekordbox installation trying to figure this out and it is a lot of overkill for the simple need I have. Ideally I'd just format the memory stick in a way that the XDJ likes and the songs would show in the browser.

If you just put WAVs on a USB drive, you can play them ... and that's about it. But why did you spend money on a device that can do SO MUCH MORE if you're just going to navigate folders blindly without much ability to quickly sort and search it? Never mind the fact you lose out on more functions of the player itself, like sync, BPM-linked effects, automatic looping...

Format your USB drive to FAT32 (Master Boot Record) or HFS+, and connect it with rekordbox open (can be in either EXPORT or PERFORMANCE mode), then import the music you want to put on the USB drive to the rekordbox collection. Once it's analysed and you've added cues / hot cues, made any adjustments / corrections to the beat grids (if necessary), created playlists, etc., export those tracks to the USB drive. Eject it, plug it into the RX2 and bask in the glory that is the ability to search and sort your music.

Thanks you very much for the reply.

The reason for my exploration into purely USB stick based operation is that I am moving from a DDJ-SX which was a good device for my needs, but it requires a computer. I bought the XDJ-RX2 specifically to see what it could do in standalone. Maybe its just me, but I hate using a computer. I come from the background of being an instrumentalist and vinyl DJ and I like having discrete devices be they guitars or 1200s. What I really am trying to do these days is to break up the compositions I produce into stems and layers and perform them live. I done sets with Octatrack, Push / Live, the DDJ-SX as I previously mentioned, even used to use an MPC 2500 with long samples and lots of different layered sequences with pad mutes. If I am going to have to use rekordbox to not make the XDJ-RX2 anything other than lame, I might as well go with the DDJ-RZX and get 4 decks, or maybe rekordbox works fully standalone on the CDJ-2000NXS2?

Apologies if I appear to be a knucklehead - I really appreciate the advice and am super overwhelmed with full time job, family, gigging, producing tracks, and trying to keep up with digital DJ performance technology.

Do you mind if I ask for some advice? I want to take multitrack compositions I produce, and have them available as stems, loops, and layers I make beforehand, put them in a device I can take to gigs, preferably without a computer. What do you think covers this? Clearly the XDJ-RX2 but as we discussed, the functionality is hamstringed without the computer...

Peace.

The computer, in this scenario, is purely for organization and preparation of your content. That's it. It makes everything a heap faster for the actual performance when you're able to have cue markers and beat grids ready to go, never mind the navigation of your songs.

Re: your question about the stems and loops, how are you planning on playing them back? Are you going to use other hardware to trigger / play them? Otherwise I'd suggest something more like the DJS-1000 as a unit to handle multiple sounds rather than the two-deck functionality of the XDJ-RX2.

Hello, I'm joined to this discussion to ask if there is a possibility to perform a file search (file name) without analyzed the files.
If not possible now, can I ask if in a future version of the firmware, it will be implemented?
I think it's no difficult thing to implement.

Thanks
