XDJ-RX2 Issues With BPM/Tempo Slider 0% No Coincidence **3 Units Tested**

**** Update, 2 of my friends have the XDJ-RX2 and both have this issue, I have confirmed it myself*****

I have noticed an issue with my 1 year old XDJ-RX2 unit, randomly, the left deck tempo slider goes from 0% straight up to 1%. So a track that is 127 bmp will go straight up to 128.3 bpm with nothing in between. If I slide the tempo slider into the minus, it will actually go from 0% to +0.95, +0.90, +0.85, +0.80 until it gets to 0.00 (at this point the slider is in the minus) then if I keep going it will continue correctly into minus %. If I restart the unit it usually fixes the issue until the next time it randomly occurs although one time it didn't fix it but updating the firmware did . To me this rules out a hardware issue as a restart of the unit/firmware update fixes it?? I searched for anyone with the same issue and found this closed post which sounds exactly the same as my issue https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360030084252-XDJ-RX2-Bpm-issues-around-0-on-Pitch-control

I have a video of the issue I can post later.

It is too much of a coincidence that 2 units would have this EXACT same issue with the exact same deck for it to be a hardware issue.

Update: Tonight I had the issue, I restarted the unit and all was fine then I turned the unit off after using it. I have just turned the unit on and the issue is there?, I turned it off and back on 3 times and the issue was still there. On the fourth time I restarted it everything was ok? It seems to be randomly having the issue from turning the unit on. I have had this unit just over a year as it was a replacement direct from Pioneer for another faulty unit which I had to send to Japan. I only use it a couple of times a week at home, so can't understand how it can start to do this randomly?

I can turn this unit off and on 10 times and its 50/50 if I face the issue, I don't even need to load any tracks and I don't even press any buttons, the issue is either there or not on turn on. Video coming soon

@keith > Sorry mate, but that looks to me like a hardware failure. And I know you say it's happened on two units, and "how could I have two identical failures," but yeah, that's what it looks like, and the worse news is I've not heard of anyone else reporting a similar problem.

Let me pass this to our engineers to see what they say.

Thanks Pulse, yes its looking that way, like I say, this unit is just over a year old so i'm hoping I don't have to pay for this repair as it seems like some kind of internal circuitry fault. I only use it twice a week and it never leaves my home. I should be covered under UK consumer law as this shouldn't really happen to a unit that is not even 13 months old yet.

I have raised a few issues with previous hardware if you look at my previous posts and have had to send 2 different units off only a few weeks after purchasing them, in fact I spent nearly a whole month liaising with the engineers in Japan and making videos to send them for both the DDJ-SZ as I first raised the issue with the jog wheel sensitivity fault, and also when I first got the RX2 I had touchscreen issues and had to send that off to Japan also, so I'm hoping I get this sorted.

Thanks again Pulse, I look forward to the Engineers thoughts.

The engineers were never able to replicate the errors you experienced on the unit that was shipped to them for investigation.

They have come to the same possible conclusion that I have; the power in your home may have irregularities causing these kinds of malfunctions. They believe an irregular voltage may cause such an issue and have recommended that you send your RX2 for inspection and repair - please contact Pioneer DJ technical support in your region to arrange that.

I can easily understand that they were unable to replicate the touch screen issues, I even struggled myself after the initial video I made. This current issue is easy to replicate, I turned the unit on today 5 times, First time the tempo slider was accurate, second, third and fourth time the tempo slider was glitched, then the fifth time it was ok, when its ok I can leave it on and everything is fine, its only determined on the unit switching on, I would have to disagree that this is cause by any power irregularities as its only just started happening and the issues would be more varied than just one exact fault, I have also never experienced the touch screen issue since I got this unit. I am happy to try this unit in another power source at a friends house just to rule that out, and then I will send the unit in for inspection/repair. Thanks Pulse.

@keith > I appreciate that, but given the errors reported over several different hardware units, and all of them potentially being caused by the same thing (irregular mains voltage), we'd like to try and make sure that's not going to be the problem moving forward. Thanks!

To be fair Pulse, I’ve only had the touchscreen issue with this model, and now a year later the tempo slider. I’ve had various other CDJ’S, DDJ controllers, DJS-1000 and various mixers and effects units and all using the same power supply for 20 years and never faced any other issues. The issue with the DDJ-SZ was a problem with the ROM chip and required a recall. I appreciate your help though as you need to rule that out.

Hello Keith,

Sorry for the tempo slider issues you experienced.

In order to identify the root cause of this issue, XDJ-RX2 engineers would like to ask you the questions below.
・Do you have the same issue when you connect the cable of XDJ-RX2 to different power outlets in your house?
・Do you have this issue in other locations? For example, at a club or your friends' house?

Thank you very much for your kind understanding and cooperation.

If you can give me a week I will try the unit in different power outlets and also at a friends house to see if the issue persists and get back to you, I wouldn’t want to send the unit in for repair until after the festive period anyway. Thanks for you help.

Hello Keith,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, please take your time for testing different power outlets.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Over the past week Ive have tried the unit in a different outlet, and also in a friends house and the issue is still there

It is easy to replicate by restarting the unit until the issue is there which is 50/50. You don't even need to load any tracks. Just turn it on, and move the left tempo slider + slightly, it will either go to +0.05%, +0.10%,+ 0.15% etc as it should, or it will go straight to +1.00%.

Thanks...

We now have 3 people with exactly the same issue, my unit was sent off for repair under warranty and the left tempo slider was replaced, when I received it back the issue is still there, i'm sending it off again next week. This is a very weird issue but can easily be replicated. I have made a few more private videos for reference which I will post links to later on.

Pulse, why was my other post deleted??? This is a major issue and we need it resolving, I only know 3 people personally who have an RX2 and they have exactly the same issue. Mines been off to be repaired and it was unsuccessful, this issue is bigger than first thought

I will post my reply here as the last one has went missing. Mine is exactly the same as this unit happens randomly it either does or doesn’t do it. With Keith’s still doing it after a tempo slider change kind of makes me think its a software issue but surely this shouldn’t be happening to a £1600 unit especially being from Pioneer

@keith > It was not deleted, I moved it to our internal forum as this is not a venue for you, the user, to "poll the users" regarding an issue with your hardware. I understand your intention, however I have asked you to be patient while our engineers look into the issue.

Just a quick note for update -- good news (albeit short), our team is now working to identify the exact cause and are working on a remedy. Again, thanks for waiting while this took place. It's tough to shift resources around in engineering for these things, so they take more time than users anticipate.
