Files, MIK, RB And Formatting

Hey All,

Issues, so if anyone can help!?

Previously when i bought wav tracks from BP i use to download via the chrome web browser and noticed that the file name would be messed up. For example:

4259119_Send_a_Prayer_Pt__1.wav

However RB fixed this somehow and they were all formatted correctly, Track Title, Artist in the correct columns? Not sure if it was me reloading the tag or something else as again it didn't happen straight but maybe when i opened RB- so was like sweet maybe it was a delay?

Then i took a look at Beatport Pro and realised that i can download them at once rather than waiting for the 6 track at a time browser download. this is when i noticed that the file names where all clean. For example:

Dense & Pika - Colt (Original Mix).wav

And now I've introduced MIK i put them through MIK Before RB which works.

Beatport Pro Download- MIK- RB

However here lies my issue...

Tracks which were original download through web browser such as - 4259119_Send_a_Prayer_Pt__1.wav (file name), which RB showed correct labeling, Track name, Artist, BPM etc some how, are now reverting back to Orginal file name (4259119_Send_a_Prayer_Pt__1.wav) after being ran through MIK and reload tag pressed, with no MIK KEY comment?

Any help would be much appreciated,

Cheers

Your problem is caused by "reloading the tags".

WAV does not have an (official) tagging mechanism. Your previous tags (artist title etc) you saw were not coming from the track's file tags, but from the Rekordbox database directly.

I'm not sure how you got the tags in before. Reloading the tags (which don't exist) caused them to disappear.

if you happen to be on MacOS then have a look at this app, it's designed to streamline the Mixed in Keys with Rekordbox integration (and will preserve your WAV track's metadata)

the tutorial is in that YT channel as well

Hey MixMasterG,

Thanks for the info, I’ll look into this. Is there a way to fix the formatting, so when I put these through MIK they will be in the correct fields?

for WAV files only ReCK will get you the Camelot keys from MiK (and ReCK is MacOS only). The reason is ReCK doesn't rely on file tags it uses the Rekordbox XML structure to get it's data in and out of Rekordbox which is an entirely different approach.

so better to restore the Rekordbox collection from a backup so you got your original MetaData back.

Never use reload tags on WAVS again (BTW this is not an Rekordbox problem, it's how WAVs work, look closely at your MiK collection and you'll see no artist, album etc there for the WAVs either)

Hey!

Was thinking what RB database? how would RB have tack tiles, artist and MIK?

Haven't Heard of ReCK? but will take a look at.

Had a look at my MIK and it does say the artist in the Artist column and the tacks name under Name... so how does that work out?

Also here's point that i forgot to put in my first message.. i said,

However RB fixed this somehow and they were all formatted correctly, Track Title, Artist in the correct columns?

But what i forgot to say was that i had ran them through MIK already and the Key was in the comments also.

Not sure if it was me reloading the tag or something else as again it didn't happen straight but maybe when i opened RB- so was like sweet maybe it was a delay?

Here lies what looks like ghost tagging? did MIK fix them to look correctly in rekordbox or was it beatport and if so how?

The point i'm trying to make is that these track which RB showed correct labeling, Track name, Artist, BPM etc plus had the MIK key in the comments now are reverting back to

4259119_Send_a_Prayer_Pt__1.wav (file name) with no comment

even though i can see that they have been ran through MIK? unless reload tags plays up? which i think it does?

I thought that if i edited them in RB and reloaded the tag, i would lose the tile, artist edit but i didnt? but still no MIK comment...

Also when you use beatport pro and sync with beaport, why does it fix the files in there system?

Ive been methodically trying things out, and i think it has something to do with Beatport Pro..

I know its a lot of questions but any help trying to understand this would be appreciated
