Hot cues & memory cues on CDJs what you need to know and how to set them the same automatically

Hot cues behave different from memory cues on Pioneer CDJ players. Just as important: hot cues on CDJs behave different from hot cues on controllers.
For those of you who come from other DJ software not converted by the DJ Conversion Utility - DJCU, or for those using Pioneer DJ controllers such as the DDJ1000 with Rekordbox so-called 'gated mode' it is very important to fully understand this difference.

for pause tracks:
CDJ's switch a paused track to playing the moment a hot cue is pressed even after the cue is released.
On Rekordbox (gated) or other DJ software with a controller:
The track plays from the cue position as long as the cue pad is pressed, release the cue pad and the track stops and the playback head moves back to the cue position

For tracks that are already playing the HotCues work identical to controller cues (=skip to the next cue and continue to play).

Memory cues in combination with the CUE button (above the PLAY button) can mimmic gated cue behavior. It's not ideal, but at least it works and one of the reasons why you see a lot of artist use the CUE button when the fader is not open.

In my latest YT tutorial I show the difference between hot and memory cues and how to set all memory cues the same as the hot cues automatically using the Rekordbox Cue and Key Tool (ReCK).
