Rekordbox Pro DJ Link / Link Export slow in 5.6.1, 5.7.0, 5.8.0, 5.8.1 and 5.8.2.

Hi,

UPDATE: Video here: https://youtu.be/6I_TIPjENzc

I have been using Rekordbox in Export mode with Pro DJ Link / Link Export for years now. I love it. My music collection is quite large, and some of my playlists are big too.
I use it with CDJ (2k, 2kNXS, 2kNXS2) setups as wel as with the XDJ-RX2. It has always worked like a charm. But since 5.6.1, loading larger playlists and their tracks on the player (CDJ/XDJ) has become very slow. The bigger the playlists, the slower they (and the tracks within them) load.

I'm using laptops (Lenovo Thinkpads; old and new ones) running Windows 7 and 10. They all show the same. I also tried my ASUS Zenbook, running WIndows 10. Same issues.

I rolled back to 5.6.0 on both machines and all playlists/tracks load INSTANTLY, like they should.

It doesn't matter how I connect the players (RJ45, LAN over USB or USB-C to RJ45).

Can this be adressed, so it can be fixed in the next update?

UPDATE: it still occurs in 5.8.2 !!

Hello,

i tried the new BETA but i have the same issue like in Version 5.8.1 or 5.8.2...

i use windows 10 in the latest version.

5.8.3 Link Mode is working but the loading delay is still there. i even can't say that it is now a bit faster or something... also track searching is lagging... if I sum up, i would say identical behavior.

i am sorry :(

BTW: @Frank Richter: i tried it with cdj-2000NXS player and it works, so maybe it is just a special problem with your XDJ or a local problem with your network/firewall.

@Denny
I updated my previous reply as there was indeed a firewall issue.
And it works now. Surprisingly I can see a big improvement. I tried it with a playlist with 1000 tracks. Will check with a larger one and report again.

Hello..

are you sure you tried to load a track and not just a playlist?
Playlist loading works perfect and instant... but track loading and track searching on the player not.

Hello Pulse,

Thanks for letting us beta testing 5.8.3. And as far as I have been testing (on the 2KNXS and the RX2), all works like it should now. As fast as it was, even on the largest playlists. It seems you guys nailed it!

I will be testing 5.8.3 for a longer time and will keep you updated.

I can see Denny still is experiencing delay issues... Over here it really works like a charm..... Maybe a stupid question, Denny, but did you really check if you're actually running 5.8.3? This beta does not let you remove exising versions as it is a beta, and the shortcuts are all called 'Rekordbox 5' now.... I almost mixed them up myself...

Regards,

Leon (topic starter)

Watched your video and it looks pretty bad still. What file formats are your tracks? Mine are MP3, 320kbit/s

hello,

i just use mp3 with 320kbit/s, so no other format.

yes i checked this... i uninstalled all rekordbox versions and installed then 5.8.3 beta.

maybe the music DB has to be updated or something like that too? don't know... :(

@Denny: You said reverting to 5.6.0 does not work for you either, as it did for me. So I think your problem lays elsewhere. Shortly showing the waveform before 'Now Loading' is also something that I did not experience.
Try re-analyzing all your tracks that still show the old (blue) waveforms in RB, if you have them. Maybe that will help....

i use already the colored WAVE form in rekordbox.

i also tried now to reanalyse a track again and badly, also same problem by loading this track then :(

maybe something in the DB/libary itself has to be fixed, that it works again?
yah, thats true... also 5.6.0 doesn't work anymore for me... so i think DB problem

@Denny > Please be sure you're actually loading the correct version of the application; many people rely on a shortcut or start menu icon to launch it, but that may link back to the older version.

If you're having problems with even 5.6.0, you may have a database issue.

Hello @Pulse

i have uninstalled all previous versions so i definitely use your provided beta 5.8.3.

yah also 5.6.0 is still not working anymore... so i am also think this could be a database problem which occours after upgrading to 5.8.1.

is there maybe a way to fix this?

There were no changes to the database type or structure. Is the beta loading at all?

yes for sure.. i can also analyse tracks and browse in my collection and enable the dj link.. but behaviour on my cdj-2000nxs is the same... see my video here of today, testing with 5.8.3 beta: https://youtu.be/8Ff7YU_kiYw

i will try now to export my libary and uninstall rekordbox and also delete the folder /AppData\Roaming\Pioneer\rekordbox and install it fresh and import my libary again... maybe this will fix it

@Pulse... i did now some tests:

1. I exported my library
2. I uninstalled all rekordbox versions
3. I deleted the AppData/Roaming/Pioneer directory
4. I restarted my computer (Windows 10 Pro x64 - Version 1903 Build 18362.592)
5. I installed your provided Beta 5.8.3
6. I started Rekordbox and logged in with my username and password
7. I just saw the rekordbox demo library with "Demo Track 1" and "Demo Track 2" in the collection. (also Noise, Sinewave, Siren, Horn sample).
8. I started my CDJ-2000NXS Player with firmware 1.43 (latest firmware AFAIK).
9. I activated the DJ Link in rekordbox
10. I tried to load the Demo Track 1 and Demo Track 2 on my CDJ-2000NXS

Result: Same issues like before... Track needs some seconds to load and also track searching is lagging.

I DIDN'T import my library, i just wanted to proof first, if the problem also happens with a clean vanilla installation of rekordbox 5.8.3 and yes, it also don't work with Demo Track 1 or Demo Track 2 loading on the CDJ-2000NXS player, connected via RJ45 network.

so also without my library the problem is there... so it can't be my library or DB...

maybe, i think, the problem is somewhere else in combination of my Windows 10 and Rekordbox? Or in combination with cdj-2000nxs?

any idea?

@Denny.

For me it works under Win 10. What about you Network cables  or your Network architecture? Can you describe a Bit how your CDJs are connected? Do you have the chance to change cables?

i did a A/B test right now and installed 5.4.3 on my primary windows pc and also 5.4.3 in my notebook.

i connect my notebook with the same RJ45 cable, like i did with my main windows pc and it works. if i connect to my windows pc i have the same failure like descripted above.

on notebook there was never rekordbox installed before.
firewall is turned off on booth computer. i am also IT technical, so i normally know what i am doing... i also retest all network cables and all, but everything works fine. i really don't know where to search for that...

maybe is there somehwere some registry entries of the broken 5.8.1 installation left, which produce the problem?

I NAILED IT!!!!

wtf... i went into network adapter settings and opened the preferences of my network adapter and saw that there are some services enabled for this adapter.

i tried to disable one after another and found out that "Shrew Soft Lightweight Filter" was producing this problem. after deactivating it, it works now like a charme with 5.4.3 i will update later to newer versions to test it.

the "Shrew Soft" Software is a VPN Client for AVM Fritz!Box to romotely connect to a public Fritz!Box via VPN. It looks like this produces problems in combination with the rekordbox dj link feature. Every other thing on my computer is running without problem, so maybe just a combination of rekordbox with shrew soft?

i have the Shrew Soft VPN Client 2.2.2 Standard Edition installed.
https://www.shrew.net/software

really don't know why this make a conflict with rekordbox. i also tried to check the settings, but there are no settings for that.. also that the vpnclient wasn't running and just the shrew soft lightweight filter was enabled in the network adapter settings harms this problem...

@Denny, very nice you pinpointed your problem and solved it. Of course I'm curious if versions between 5.6.1 and 5.8.2  are still giving the issues on your side, but I can imagine you don't want to test that anymore.

I thnk we can conclude that 5.8.3 is a winner. I'm looking forward to the official release!

That is quite interesting. But luckily it works for everyone now.
I'm off to a gig to stretch test 5.8.3 (on a CDJ2K(non-NXS)/DJM900NXS set).
It's a dinner gig so it's quite safe :-)

@Denny > I'm glad you were able to find that -- this is exactly why we say you need to search through to find any networking services (whether sharing or network profiles), or file sharing applications which may impede the network traffic used by rekordbox for the ProDJ Link. Unfortunately it's not an easy thing for us to look at and diagnose without having a full process list and for our teams to even know what those services are and how they can impact the traffic.

For that reason I got a dedicated Networkadapter in my PC. It is on a different IP number range as the other network is. This network is conecting with a switch, the DJM and the XDJs is using  as well. Before when having all in the same network I had issues with the ProDJ link as well. I my case the problem were caused by the Jumbo frames I am using in the entire network except for the DJ stuff.
