DdJ -400 with usb3 to lightning cable does not turn on when using an ipad . Just for a second and then power goes away. Please help. Need to use spotify
In order to use the DDJ-400 with an iOS device, you'll need to use the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter. This provides the device AND the DDJ-400 with power.
Alternatively, you could use a powered USB hub and the regular Lightning to USB Camera Adapter.

You have to have a power source for the 400, the iPad isn't powerful enough to run it. Get an adapter that will allow you to connect the 400 and a power source down to a lightning for connection.
I bought a lighnting to usb 3.0 but it does not seem to do it

Once I connect the iPad the controller switches on for 1 second then switches off and remains off.

I am using iPad Pro 12.9 Gen 2. iOS 13.2 The app I am using is djay- algoriddim 3.2.3
I am having the same issue except the DDJ400 doesn't turn on at all. I have it connected to a Lightning USB3 to camera adapter and into my ipad air 3rd gen (latest model). I am charging it as well and nothing. This is my first time buying a controller and it doesnt work. I am highly upset because i spent alot of money on the ipad, controller, and even bought a $100 pioneer bag for it as well. Please help!!! I plugged the controller into a laptop and it worked right away. Not sure why it doesnt work on the ipad when online it says it does.

I have the same problem. I just bought it yesterday, for my son. It works on the laptop, but not on the iPad ( iOS 13)

Has this been resolved yet. I'm using the USB3 camera adapter as well and it will not power on the DDJ400 while connected to the Ipad 7 using software version 13.2.3 but if I use my Iphone 11 promax in its place using software version 13.2.3 it works perfectly fine. The DDJ400 powers on and the Djay Pro recognizes that its connected. I bought this Ipad specifically to use with my DDJ-400.
I also have this issue with DDJ-400 > Ipad mini4 using apple lightning to usb3 adapter and running Algoriddim djay 3 I can only use the controller if it is connected via a second powered usb hub...
today even that workaround failed for an hour or so before reconnecting again mysteriously.
My next purchase will now have to be a genuine apple plug in charger and cable (12W) as until now i have been using a maplins 2xusb power block and an amazon branded lightning cable which work fine for both my ipad and iphone but maybe not for the lightning to usb3 adapter.
UPDATE: I've just tested the adapter with my daughters genuine apple power block and cable and it does work... for everyone having issues, check which cable and power supply you have as it might have to be apple in order to work.......
I found mine seemed to disconnect when I loaded a track using the touch screen and not the controller. Not sure if that was a coincident as I am still learning all the features. It would be a pity if the iPad feature doesn’t work. I was having a lot of fun with it!
Dear Pioneer. Having the exact same issue. I bought the DDJ400 as soon as I knew it could support iPad but unfortunately the setup advertised ( USB camera adapter) does not work. The controller is not powered.
Any suggestion of the exact setup that works on your side?

I power it using the iPhone charger.
The iPhone charger or the iPad charger? It should say on it how many watts / amps it outputs; you want to be using the higher output iPad version.
Hey i jusy got the ddj400 and I'm facing the same issue. Using the iPads charger to power the ddj400 and the ipad using the lightning to usb3 adapter. Reading the above forum doesn't give me an answer too. Please suggest how one should go about it.
Hi Viram, I bought the USB camera adapter from Apple ( not a 3rd party one ) and it now works.
I guess Apple blocks few thing on 3rd party accessories which is lame but it's how it is unfortunately.
SOLUTION:
I was having the exact same problem, with a Lightning to USB3 connector attached to the DDJ400 and the iPad, with pass through power supplied via lightning cable into a wall socket, I found that the power supplied was not enough to keep the DDJ400 running. Sometimes it would light up and then die, sometimes it won't even light up at all.
I noticed that if my iPad was 100% charged, and everything was configured as above, then the DDJ400 would work.
However if my iPad was less than fully charged, then the DDJ400 couldn't stay powered reliably. I'm assuming this is because a portion of the power being supplied from the wall is charging the iPad (rather than just maintaining a 100% charge), and therefore the leftover power isn't enough to supply the DDJ400.
So instead of having to rely on my iPad being fully charged all the time in order to use this setup, I added a powered USB hub into the mix;
DDJ400 plugged into powered USB hub, hub powered by wall socket with USB end plugged into the lightning to USB3 adapter, which is then plugged into the iPad. Optionally you can plug a lightning cable into the adapter to simultaneously charge the iPad, but it's not necessary for powering the DDJ400, as that is receiving power from the powered hub now.
With this setup, it all works reliable regardless of how much power your iPad has.
It's a hassle having to carry around an additional power supply and USB hub, but hey it works!
At the moment I'm testing without the powered hub, just using the lightning to usb3 adapter but this time I'm plugging it into higher powered charging bricks. I'm operating under the assumption that those of us having problems are using underpowered USB ports to try and supply enough power to charge the ipad and run the controller at the same time.
I'm testing with a QC3 charger now, and if I can find a 12W or higher usb brick I'll do that too. Will report my findings later. Best of luck, and I know how frustrating it is when it doesn't work after pouring a bunch of money into it, so hang in there!
Update on my findings:
So... even with a QC3 power brick, there's simply not enough power being supplied to simultaneously charge the iPad and power the DDJ400 if the iPad is below 100% (I tested it with 95% power).
However I have confirmed at least on my hardware, that when at 100% battery, the setup will work to power the DDJ400... However if your iPad's battery was to drop below a 100% even when plugged in (say you're running apps in the background while djaying and the power consumption becomes more than the lightning cable is able to supply to both the iPad and the DDJ400), then the DDJ400 will start to cut out intermittently before failing completely until your iPad is back to 100% power.
HOWEVER, it does seem to work sometimes even if the iPad is under 100%. Sometimes I just have to plug it in and it take a couple of minutes before the DDJ400 powers on, though I'm concerned with stability.
Unfortunately I don't have a higher wattage charging brick with me right now, otherwise I would test that too.
So for stability, I highly recommend using a powered USB hub in conjunction with the lightning to usb3 adapter, that way you won't run into these power issues.

I found the solution.
Got my DDJ400 for a few weeks now, Works perfectly on my iMac. I recieved my Lightning to USB3 adapteur yesterday... and it does not power up my DDJ400 with the iPad connected.
When I tried it with my iPhone, there was an automatic download and upgrade of the USB3-lightning adapter (I don't know how it works though).
With the iPad, it still not working after the previous adapter update, BUT it wored when instead of plgin the USB into the wall, I powered it with a big back-up battery I have for my iPhone. -->it worked.
then I tried it with my Mac powering the DDJ400 and the iPad (through the adapter) --> it worked (computers have big USB power capability)
Conclusion, standard small apple charger we all have for our iPhones do not provide enough power for both iPad and DDJ400. --> you have to use the big wall charger that is provided with the iPad itself to power both ipad and DDJ400.
