AS-1 and KORG Electribe 2

Hey newbie question here... from a boomer... I'm having trouble syncing my Electribe 2 and AS-1. I've tried tweaking multiple settings on each and I'm sure I'm just not getting it quite right but if anybody can help me beat match these two goodies I'd be super appreciative. It seems that neither being master or slave works as the AS-1 won't play either single notes or sequences.

The sync out signal from the KORG works great triggering another synth but the midi just doesn't seem to agree with either the KORg or AS-1.

With that being said I LOVE my As-1. It's super awesome and rich sounding. I'm still trying to figure out the menus but I can;t wait to have it team up with the KORG. Also, I like the size and build quality. It's a small package with a lot of kick butt in it.

Very happy and bright house vibes.  If the AS-1's sequencer is not starting when you hit play on the Electribe, it sounds like the Electribe is not sending a MIDI start/stop message. That would be the next thing to go into the Electribe settings and ascertain.

Hi Eric,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. Let's first try to just sync the AS-1's internal sequencer to the Electribe, with Electribe being the master.

Make sure your MIDI cable is working and you're using the dongle supplied by Korg convert from 1/8" jack to 5-pin DIN MIDI.

Connect Electribe MIDI Out to your AS-1 MIDI In.

Follow instructions in your Electribe Manual to make sure you're sending out both clock and transport (start/stop) messaged over the MIDI Out port.

Make sure the AS-1 is set to receive clock by adjusting the following settings:

PRESS GLOBAL

SCROLL TO PARAMETER 6 "MIDI Clock Mode"

SET VALUE TO "SLAVE"

SCROLL TO PARAMETER 7 "MIDI Clock Cable"

SET VALUE TO "MIDI Port"

PRESS GLOBAL to exit.

Now when you hit play on your Electribe, does the AS-1 sequencer begin to play in sync?

Hey thank you. I've been tied up but I will try this asap. I think I had stock midi adapters so I'll try the Pioneer one and let you know how it goes. Thanks for taking the time to give me the 411

Hey Rhythm Droid, thanks for the input. I did it, it kinda worked, but not quite.

I could see that the BPM was --- on the AS-1 so I know something was over riding the native BPM of each sequence.

The notes played fine on the keyboard but it would not start a sequence. No play action. And I'm trying to get them to fire in unison. So the MIDI is halfway getting recognized but I can;t use the sequencer when it's connected.

Thanks, Eric

Do you have another sequencer which responds to MIDI start and stop messages? This would be a good way to make sure Electribe is sending the right messages before we troubleshoot what might be going on with the AS-1.

Hey thanks for the 411. I do not yet have one of those. I also need a clock splitter, but thank you for the suggestion. I'm making the best I can out of a hodge-podge kit. I've found that just playing it independently is working good right now. I guess at some point I should pick a single company for all the bits so they all get along. Thanks for the love, here's a smaple jam, Eric
