Rekordbox cannot create the analysis file question #3456

Hi there.

I searched all the past threads but nothing helped so posting here in the vain hope someone can help me.

I recently got a new computer and migrated a bunch of files/applications over using time machine. I downloaded the newest version of Rekordbox 5.8.4 and I had the above message about the database. None of my tracks are analysed and any time I try analyse them  it gives me this message or crashes.

I am starting to lose my mind so any help would be super appreciated.

Sounds like you've got a different username on the new computer - it's an easy fix.

First things first, close rekordbox.

Next, you need know the path to your home directory. You can find it by opening the System Preferences > Users & Groups applet.

If you need to, click the lock icon at the bottom to unlock the panel so you can make changes. Hold the control key while you click on your username from the list and select Advanced Options... your home directory path is going to be /Users/something

DO NOT change anything! Once you know your path, click Cancel.

Open a Finder window and go to the menu Go > Go to Folder... and in that window, copy/paste this:

~/Library/Application Support/Pioneer/rekordbox/

Right-click on the rekordbox3.settings file and select Open with... and select Text Edit.

Before you make any changes, open the Text Edit Preferences and make sure you disable the Smart Quotes, then click the red ball to close the preferences.

Next, use the Find to locate these lines:

<VALUE name="pioneerDirectory"
<VALUE name="masterDbDirectory"
<VALUE name="itunesLibraryFile"
<VALUE name="bridgeImportedLibraryFile"
<VALUE name="SamplerSaveDirectory"
<VALUE name="RecordSaveDirectory"

If they don't exist, that's fine - you should have the top two, at the very least.

In that line, it will have a val and the data for that will be the path to your OLD user's files; you need to update that. For example:

<VALUE name="pioneerDirectory" val="/Users/PulseOLD/Library/Pioneer/rekordbox"/>

would become

<VALUE name="pioneerDirectory" val="/Users/Pulse/Library/Pioneer/rekordbox"/>

Save the file and re-open rekordbox.

Let us know if that works for you.

Hi there.

Thanks for your response.

Sadly this hasn't helped. Still getting the same response and still large amounts of my collection missing or can't be located..

So good news is not getting the message anymore but for some reason none of my collection which were analyzed in a previous version have retained their info so it needs to re anlysye the whole collection. Is there a solution to this too?

Thanks

You can select songs (either individually or all) and then right-click and select "Analyse" to process those tracks.

Hi, Yes I known about that option. What I meant was the entire collection has already been analysed on my old computer. I guess I was hoping there was a way that I didn't have to re analyse 15000 songs. Is that just part of moving computer?

@Harry > The correct steps for moving from computer to computer would not to be restoring a TimeMachine when you have a different username; the process I outlined above should have been able to "find" your previously existing data.

If you still have the files, there's no need to re-analyse - the database and support files would still contain all the analysis data. It sounds to me like one of the steps or changes you've made wasn't correct or pointed to the wrong place.
