Sometimes when I turn my controller on and link it to my computer, the following happens:
Sound works, so the controller will play sound through whatever connected audio channels. the EQ controls in the middle of the controller work. And it seems rekordbox on my computer works normally.
But the controller itself doesn't work insofar as... the left and right sides are mostly dark (play/pause, cue buttons and others are not backlit, etc... and don't function), jog wheels don't show track loaded and don't work.
restarting the controller doesn't work. removing the USB connector computer connector cable doesn't work. changing USB ports in my computer doesn't work.

This issue is not happening when I plug my XDJ-XZ in to my mac. My issue atm is that my entire music library is on my PC but I have nothing on my mac (can only play rekordbox off streaming, such as SoundCloud playlists).
