RekordBox 6 Subscription - A Complete Farce!

I own a full NXS2 setup at around £6,000 and you want to now charge me a monthly subscription to use HID under the new RB!

Wake the f**k up Pioneer you absolute clowns!

Anyone that has spent that kind of money on your flagship equipment should be getting full subscriptions at no additional cost whatsoever.

What a great start you've made Noritsu to owning a DJ company. Stick to making photo printers.

Take some advice from the DJ community and have a big rethink here and do it fast.

Will take your suggestion and forward it on.  The majority of NXS2 users seem to use the on board flash drive or SD card method for media playback and don't utilize the rekordbox performance aspect so that is the obvious reason behind not including it with your set up.  But will ad this to suggestions from our users moving forward.

Jay it does not matter what the majority or the few do. It should be a given that If you have made this kind of investment you get everything included as standard. It’s a very poor attempt at a money grab. A DDJ-200 costing £139 is an unlock device but a CDJ-2000 NXS2 costing £1959 is not! Unbelievable!

Actually I agree - even saying the costs are not included in the NXS2 pricing. What should that cost be, if the entire DDJ-200 is available for 139 GBP...

Even when you look at the mixers DJM-750MK2 is a HW unlock, DJM-900NXS2 is not, DJM-V10 is.

This is inconsistant. It wasn't a big pain as people were mostly purchasing a one time license and it was solved - not convenient but so be it.

Now with the subscription model it wouldn't be an option anymore - at least not for me.

I would assume that most of the future products PioneerDJ will release might be HW unlock devices (my speculation). So why not award the customers with the high end equipment until an upgrade to a new hardware may include the functionality anyway.

Just my 2 cents - but I know marketing people are thinking different.... and this is not the only company...
But what I know is - it costs little money to keep customers loyal, it cost 3 times the money to get them back from competition. This is even more difficult when hardware last 3 to 5 years before it gets replaced. And I would believe that PioneerDJ is making most money from the hardware and not from the rekordbox software...

We will see - I haven't decided yet what I do when my two XDJ-1000mk1 will be due for a replacement....

Some common sense needs to prevail here for sure Frank as I don't see how a £139 controller can be an unlock device but 2x CDJ-2000NXS2 & 1x DJM-900NXS2 at total cost of just under £6k is not!

I really need to add a small Info......

I paid for the additional effect package for Rekordbox the full price to never ever need to work with any dumb monthly sub shit like Microsoft Office and stuff.....

So I paid for the expansion with effects I use on a daily basis in RB 5.x since years.

And now this package is only to get by subbing additionaly.....I mean: ok it is a new software version, but the effects are still the same package that didnt change at all.

Also the DVS possibility is now gone even if I extra bought the small external controller where it came with it......But hey Subscription aswell.....

Same shit like Traktor 3 update but even worse as NI only charges once for the update and not monthly up to 10 bugs.......thats freaking 120 a year for who knows how long....

F**** U Rekordbox Management.....we should be happy that we didn´t need to pay extra for Ableton Link, don´t we?

I own a DDJ 1000, DDJ-RX and the DDJ XP.....(not to mention the Headphones)

and you still want money from me? WOW

Ill stick with version 5.8.5 as long as possible.....and consider switching back to Traktor if you guys don´t rethink this Betriebswirtschaftslehre Manager Scheisse your new boss is parking where it doesn´t belong in a not mainstream marked......
(This is, I think, the same behavoíour that costs Apple Pro all musicians that used to use their products for over a decade....just my 2 cents)

This is a bad move and a money grab by Pioneer.  What is the customer getting for $120 a year?  Cloud integration?  That's not worth the $120.  You're taking away features that are currently free and making your best customers pay for them now?  That's the rub here. The company got where it was by releasing new innovative hardware that people loved.  Lately, there has been nothing new or innovative.  How old are the NXS2's now?  All I can say is that your are making this move while other companies are connecting to cloud services, building innovative stand alone and battery capable hardware and come in at a lower price point.   Moves like this are how you lose customers. You're making it very tempting for us to leave.  It would cost me $7k for a NXS2 and a DJM900.  Then I need to buy a laptop and a backup for $2-3K. Plus, now I have another $120 a year for say 5 years and I'm in the game for well over $10K with Pioneer.  If I move to a stand alone setup offered by another company I'm in for less than $5k.  I don't need a laptop or backup.  Heck I can buy another full setup and still be under the cost for your equipment.   I hope you rethink this.  If you don't, I'm out. I don't want to be but I will be.

Guys i just payed 3,000 dollars for a ddj rzx and 400 for the rb-dmx1 the reason i spent on this equipment is because its hardware unlock devises. But come to find out that it comes with its limitations and literaly forcing me to pay the dam subscription. Not just that they paint the rb-dmx1 as the holy grail and they add new light fixtures into the database even though they would still not be compatible with them. They say "oh its for the future so they can be ready" its been over 2 years and nothing has changed. I used bitch at serato because they removed the 100% tempo range and decided to move to rekordbox for that reason. What a stupid move i literally feel like if i shot my own foot

A few things to address before we lock this one down...

  1. A DDJ-200 is a software unlock for rekordbox because unlike a CDJ-2000NXS2, it doesn't work without it.

  2. The CDJ-2000NXS2 did not come with a license key because, as Jay noted, the majority of CDJ sales are for clubs, where a license key is not required, and most CDJ users aren't setting them up as controllers, hence no need for a license.

  3. The DJM-V10 and CDJ-3000 come as a hardware unlock devices because they were launched after the release of rekordbox 6; there were plenty of DJM-900NXS2 and CDJ-2000NXS who wanted that level of hardware to come with a license key. There were no plans to retroactively give hardware unlock for free to rekordbox to those owners since it never came with it before. Sorry.

  4. Most of the hardware devices in our lineup unlock rekordbox 6, and almost all products moving forward will also. Very few current line products don't include it. This means most users won't ever need to pay for a subscription.

  5. Premium features are being included as updates to the Creative plan; vocal detection and edit mode just to name two that have been added in the last year alone, and there are more to come.

  6. If you bought rekordbox 5 license packs to extend the features for the product you purchased (eg. DVS or video to use with a DDJ-1000), there were never any terms expressed or implied that you would be able to move that feature to rekordbox 6 or beyond. You are still able to use those features in rekordbox 5, but to expect that you'd also get it free in a new version of the software is a bit naive.

  7. Speaking of rekordbox 5, it will continue to function as long as you want to keep using it. Our license server will continue to allow you to activate and manage your license keys. What you paid for is still functional. There won't be any more updates (and even I was surprised to see a Big Sur update to make v5 compatible), but it will continue to function with all past equipment.

  8. If you pay $120 as a subscription to a service for which you make money, it's a writeoff against your taxable income. If you get paid to DJ, you should know this. It may surprise you to know that rekordcloud costs $15/mo... that's more than rekordbox... and it only manages the music that you use within your DJ software!

  9. @Hadmetl > You don't need to pay for anything; the RZX unlocks video. What is it you think we're forcing you to pay to use? As for the RB-DMX1, there are literally thousands more supported fixtures since the launch of rekordbox lighting. While our team is still working to include more lighting types, they are improving the software; look to the recent additions of the manual overrides and Pro DJ Link lighting. The new 6.5.2 beta also features improvements for MIDI control over the macro programming modes.

In summary, if you're angry at Pioneer DJ because of the change to a subscription model, you're not alone - there are plenty out there, but I'll say it again:

Most users will not be affected by this; their hardware will unlock the features they want / need.

There are no plans to roll back to a one-time-purchase model, sorry.

And on a personal note, if you feel that you'd be better served by purchasing another brand, feel free to do so. Maybe our engineers will take note and make changes!
