Rekordbox 6.0 Consumers my Battery Quickly

I'm a new owner of a DDJ-400 and learning to  DJ.  I'm having lots of  fun and RB has a cool layout. It's also working great, but I've noticed it really burns my battery  quickly and runs my machine quite hot.

I have a

  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
  • 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
  • 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
  • Radeon Pro 555 2 GB
  • Intel HD Graphics 630 1536 MB

Are there any settings or adjustments I can make in the software to reduce the battery consumption? I've read  many articles on here about CPU usage, and  the response from RB Staff is usually to explain that high CPU usage can be normal, etc. I can't argue about what CPU usage is normal, but I do know  my battery  usually  lasts a lot longer.

Any advice?

Is rekordbox still analysing music? That would certainly use more resources. You should also verify that the DVS, lighting, lyric, and video modes are all disabled if you're not using them.

Hey guyz.  I'm having this problem for about a year now, I've always waited because I thought new versions of RB or OSX would fix it, but it doesn't seem to happen.  So let's shoot the problem:

I start my Macbook Pro (most recent model) - I have this problem with at least 3 different OSX major releases - I have this problem with at least 5 Rekordbox Updates.

When I start Rekordbox in EXPORT mode, ... and I do NOTHING and l really mean NOTHING ... in no time (within 3 minutes) my notebook is getting soooo hot, after a while the fan even starts blowing, ... the activity monitor show 30% rekordbox battery usage, 20% audiocored battery usage, 30% GPU proces for Rekordbox, ... let's say my fully charged battery is drained in about an hour.

There were times I could play a set for 4 hours on Rekordbox, without the power adapter.  So why is Rekordbox using that much power? What is he doing (i've just started the software in export mode, I do really nothing, so what's causing the high usage?)

Kind regards, Christophe

Christophe,

As above, open the rekordbox preferences (in performance mode) and disable Video, Lyric, Lighting, and DVS. That will give you significantly better performance in either export or performance mode.

Hey Pulse, thanks for the tip... but unfortunately none of them was enabled.  Any other suggestion?

Make sure you're not analysing anything.

I know it chews battery even when idle, but that's known and our team is working to improve it with every version.

If you want it to drain less, switch to export mode.

I'm talking about Export mode.  Just start the software.  I only use Export mode. Not analysing anything, not playing songs, no USB connected, not exporting, not connected to XDJ, doing nothing nothing nothing, ... and it starts blowing my fan, cooking my laptop and draining the battery :-)

But no problem, I have full confidence that someday it will be fixed.  There were times this didn't happen.  It's happening for sure since at least 5 Rekordbox updates.
