Can you see a difference between these 2 AIFF files?

So i have 6000 odd library that was converted from WAV to AIFF yesterday. I did this because my XDJ-RX2 favours this format according to the documentation and i wanted to have meta-data saved into the track file itself.

Problem is that SOME files carry over their tags when viewed in Rekordbox and others dont. I've opened in a number of editors to see what teh difference is between them and i cannot see any.

I have been told Rekordbox favours ID3v2.4 but can anyone confirm v2.3 tags will definitely not show in RB? Besides how are PC users supposed to work with v2.4 when its not supported by Windows?

Below are various screenshots of 2 track files:

3Deep - StoneFaced tags work/ show up in RB.

Mindwave - Oblivion tags do not. Please explain what the issue is.

I want to transfer the KEY, RATING & GENRE of each file without having to tedious do it for each of the 6k tracks in RB. I'm using RB 5.8 not 6.

Any help appreciated

Cheers Mal

Wait, what documentation told you that the RX2 "prefers" AIFF?

It's better simply by virtue of playing that file copied directly would have more support for metadata (WAV has no official tag implementation), but they're pretty much the same in terms of playback and quality.

So what is the definitive lossless solution with tagging that will be recognised by XDJ-RX2 (and the majority of Pioneer products) please Pulse?

I'm at a transition stage of fixing my tunes so now would be ideal to do the conversion if you know?

Thanks

Any insight into why the meta-data is not showing please Pulse?

Cheers

Yes - I created that chart to show what filetypes were able to have the metadata read/written by rekordbox. WAV doesn't have an official specification for metadata, rather an unofficial one, so that's why you see a lot of red in its column. The chart doesn't imply that the players "prefer" that file format, sorry if that's how you interpreted the info!

AIFF would be the most widely compatible lossless filetype. As for why the tags aren't showing, I suspect it would possibly be due to either the conversion process or the tag field type used. What app are you using to convert the songs?

Not at all Pulse, we both arrived at the same conclusion, that AIFF is probably the best format for my player so no harm done. And sorry its taken so long to respond I always have issues logging into Pioneer and getting the reply box to show... anyway.

I use FOOBAR2000 for the conversion but i made sure i only added metadata to the fields you highlighted in green on your diagram so i assumed they would work. What's more is i checked all the data using Tag&Rename to be sure they are void of any illiegal characters and such. I mean you can see all the softwares in the images above and i can't see anything that would cause issue.

This whole ordeal with tags being read on my RX2 has been a long one i must say. I just want to find a solution that works with my tracks and Pioneer products no matter what it is. I am at the stage where i dont mind making global changes to all my tracks long as they can be read by the hardware.

Can you send one of the track whose tags aren't being read to forums@pioneerdj.com and put 4403325101465 in the subject line?

Re: the login issues, clear your cache and cookies for the following domains:

*.pioneerdj.com
*.rekordbox.com
*.kuvo.com
*.zendesk.com
*.gigya.com

...then make sure you have the security / privacy setting to allow 3rd party cookies / cross-domain data for those sites.

OK so i sent a file but i think i've uncovered more issues here...

Look at the bitrate for all the files that didnt carry over their tags! Odd thing is, if i add them to my collection the correct bitrate is shown but the tags still fail to show. And i can hear them play so i know they aren't corrupted?

The above pic just has me listing the problem tracks off my main media backup drive, they have not been added to my collection yet though im in the process of doing that right now.

This is the current state of me importing into a new collection:

So i've highlighted a problem track in RB (left) and windows explorer (right) so you can see the difference. The Key is showing in windowsbut not Rekordbox. and there are literally hundreds of these files like this. I have also uploaded the track in question to the drive at the same link i sent earlier.

Thanks for all your help Pulse and sorry for the headache.

*Bump.

Still waiting please Pulse. The issue clearly is with Rekordbox as the comments work in Windows, Tag&Rename, FOOBAR and other softwares so i need support from Pioneer. Its been a couple of weeks now. Can you even let me know whether your support team are looking into it?

"Look at the bitrate for all the files that didnt carry over their tags! Odd thing is, if i add them to my collection the correct bitrate is shown but the tags still fail to show."

That screenshot shows content which has not been imported to rekordbox, thus none of the tags are read. This is 100% expected.

I scanned the Massive Attack track it and it showed errors:

Massive Attack - Space Hypnose Vs Static Movement.aiff
000083322650 Container: ID3 contained size does not reflect chunk size
000083324114 Container: Chunk overflows (recoverable): size=65663, next offset=83389785, file size=83326116

So I fixed it and then checked the tags, but it still didn't import the tags to rekrodbox; both files had version 2.4 tags and neither read, even after manually updating tags and forcing them to re-save.

The DJ Lion track had similar errors:

Know It Better - Dj Lion.aiff
000068100462 Container: ID3 contained size does not reflect chunk size
000068101852 Container: Chunk overflows (recoverable): size=2131112464, next offset=2199214324, file size=68103920

In this file, however, the original was 2.3 and the fixed version had updated to 2.4, and it imported no problem - rekordbox read the tags as expected.

Hey Pulse, thanks for responding...

Right so i have since managed to isolate every track that failed to import tags into RB. I did this (for anyone following) by adding an arbitrary tag in FOOBAR2000 to the comment field to my entire collection and then sorted my catalogue by that same field and checked to see which AIFFs never recorded the tag.

I then used Mediahuman Audio Converter (100% FREE!) to re-encode all said tracks to AIFFs and this has fixed the header issue!!! I can see all the tags in Rekordbox YAY!

Note: alot of my tracks were purchsed as WAVs, Foobar's conversion into AIFFs is likely the cause of the faulty header, hence why i used Mediahuman second time round.

I am now faced with one last issue. I have 6000 tracks in total and if it were possible to open the Pioneer .edb database file so i can do a quick Find/Replace of the word ".wav" and replace with ".aiff" it would save me a HUGE amount of time not having to re-tag everything -it took me around 4 years first time round so any help to do this is massively appreciated, i am happy to pay for the help. Please PM me. Thanks

That last one is no bueno since the frame positioning of a WAV and AIFF would also yield different beat grids, so even if you tried replacing the file, you'd have to also replace the analysis and hot cue positions.

I don't really care about grid and cue positions Pulse, i can do those on the fly its the my Tag data that took forever, so i can filter through the collection.

You sure it can't be done?

Nothing I can provide steps for, but I know there are a couple of users who may know a trick or two about achieving this.
