2 quick thoughts, have you tried switching to USB B? Have you tried the last version of Serato or an earlier one?
While moving the tempo slider on either deck on my SZ2, it will often cause them to flicker, along with a slight audio clicking sound. I am attaching a video of the issue occurring. It is reproducible basically every single time. I am updated to the latest version of everything driver and software related.
I am not able to reproduce this on my SX3, and I do not have the issue on my SZ2 if I try to recreate it in another DJ program such as Djay Pro. For these reasons, I am inclined to believe it is a Serato issue, and not a hardware issue on my end, but I have no way of trying this on identical hardware.
I am Intel macOS based, and I am on the latest version of everything (drivers, OS, firmware, Serato, etc).
Additionally,
- Remapping the tempo slider still causes the issue to occur, and even using the software tempo slider in Serato (while my SZ2 is connected) causes the issue.
- The audio stutter is present in a recording.
- I recorded two videos of what happens. In these videos, you will see the needle indicator on the jog wheel LCD disappear while using the tempo slider. When this occurs, the audio stutter happens as well.

I have tried all the basic troubleshooting, I just tried downgrading Serato. Still have the issue. I use my SX3 for gigs most of the time, so my SZ2 has barely gotten any use. I'm not sure when this started. I also tried re-installing the audio driver.
What could answer my question is if I could find someone who had an SZ2, a Mac, and could try to recreate this. It happens very quickly once the actions to reproduce this issue are taken.
As I said, I cannot recreate the issue in djay pro, but i'm not sure if that could rule out a hardware issue.
The only thing similar I found was a post from 4 years ago of someone having a very similar issue, but with virtual dj. Same hardware (Mac, SZ2). He said he eventually exchanged it.
It looks to be a connection issue - but as you said this only happens with Serato, I can't be sure.
Please contact a Pioneer DJ authorized service centre in your region to have your hardware inspected and/or repaired.
