RekordBox & Track Storage

Hi everyone just a simple question!

Recently purchased a xdj-xz and learning its features. I like rekordbox to organise my music but was wondering once my tracks are synced with my usb stick if I can delete them from my pc?

so my tracks will only be on my USB and that when I re-connect my USB to rekordbox it will recognise and play the files again without being stored on my pc.

thanks !

Kris

I recommend that you keep your collection on a pc. I have one system that I use build my entire collection before transferring it to my laptop. I also use it to build my USB that I use with CDJ's.

You can build a USB disk to house your entire collection and database. Then you can connect it to multiple computers. You have to configure each system to use the same drive letter each time you connect the disk. Then configure RB to store the database on the USB disk so your tracks have cues, playlists, etc.

Make sure you have good backups. I keep my backups on Google Cloud for security.

I use a 128GB USB drive that will only hold about 10K tracks. I keep my full library on an internal SSD disk on my laptop, 1TB. I only transfer tracks needed for a gig to the USB using the SYNC Manager in RB. I have heard issues from others about using USBs larger than 256GB on CDJs. Not sure if that would be an issue on the XZ.

You can use your RB laptop as a source library to devices using ProLink mode. Or use the USB on CDJs/XZ devices.
