SOLVED: Communication with rekordboxAgent failed (Win 10)

Hi Pulse,

** Edited for solution **

I've recently upgraded from RB5 to RB6.2.4 on Windows 10 Pro. RB failed to start with the 'Cannot connect to agent' error https://rekordbox.com/en/support/faq/trouble-shooting-6/#faq-q600139

After disabling a load of stuff (AV etc), reinstaling etc, it still didn't work. I've seen lots of other posts with the same problem and no real solution other than 'Raise a ticket'.

Originally I found that running RB6 as an administrator worked, but after a bit more investigation I found the issue was with Windows Firewall.

My home wifi network was incorrectly marked as 'Public' and the communications between Rekordbox and the agent was being blocked by the firewall unless I ran as administrator (note: another symptom was that I could not drag files from Windows Explorer to a playlist in RB!).

To fix it, go to (Windows 10) Settings -> Network & Internet -> [Network] Properties Button -> Change the Network Profile from Public to Private. Et voila, it now works!

Might be worth adding this to that FAQ troubleshooting note. Hope this helps someone else!

Thanks, Gary

There was another fix available, but I'm glad you got it sorted! ;)

Out of interest - and in case others have the issue and find this post - what was the other fix?

Main things to check first are:

- disable antivirus software
- disable any VPN
- ensure firewall allows traffic (or disable to test)
- network configuration (as you found; private vs. public)
- ensure your router allows all traffic (or connect directly to modem to test)

The fall-back is the possibility that the database is damaged, in which case we try restoring a backup.

Ok, I found another solution after none of the above worked for me:

I thought Rekordbox Program File and Rekordbox Agent where added to my Windows Firewall after I checked this in - security dashboard - firewall and network - allow an app for firewall.

The problem is you can't see in this view if the app is allowed for both incoming and outgoing connections in this view/program. You have to check that via advanced settings.

I noticed Rekordbox Program File and Rekordbox Agent only added to the incoming traffic and not to the outgoing traffic. After I added both apps to the outgoing traffic the problem seems to be solved.
