Rekordbox Video - Stability Issues

Good morning,

I've posted before regarding video issues with Rekordbox but I want to know how stable Rekordbox 6 is in handling videos.

Specifically, I imported and analyzed 633 music videos into my Rekordbox library and the program crashed 17 different times attempting to do this. I tried analyzing batches at a time instead of all at once and it still had this issue to the point I had to analyze each video one by one.

Granted, I am still on Rekordbox 5.8.5 and my Ryzen CPU is technically not "supported", but my Intel laptop has this issue as well and I've gotten no response to my inquiries.

I get it. I know Rekordbox 5 is no longer a priority for Pioneer, but these many issues I've been having in regards to Rekordbox's video functionality really makes me wonder if I should just switch to Serato for my VJing needs. All other posts regarding Rekordbox Video has a reply of "submit an inquiry ticket", so it does not inspire a lot of confidence to upgrade to Rekordbox 6 if I'm to rely on its video functionality.

Pulse, you've said there's no difference between Rekordbox 5 and 6's video function. Has the video analysis functionality and overall stability improved at least? I am thinking of eventually upgrading to a MacBook Pro when the new M1X chip comes out and I know I will have to upgrade to Rekordbox 6 for it to work properly, but Video seems to be such an afterthought to Pioneer that I wonder if I should just convert my library to Serato.

Thanks for reading.

@shinguk > The analysis problem is likely that you have it set to NORMAL analysis mode instead of PERFORMANCE; check that box in the preferences to increase the analysis speed.

Overall, the stability is good provided you have a decent computer. Any computer older than 4 years really shouldn't even be considered for the task.

The problem I have with our recommended system specs for rekordbox is it says "Intel Core i3 / i5 / i7 / i9," but they've been making those CPUs for 12 years now, and I can tell you that even some of the early generation i7's are no longer suitable.

I have not personally tested an M1-based computer for use with rekordbox, let alone video performance, but from all accounts it's very fast. Our team is investigating the need for an Mac-silicon optimized version of rekordbox (vs. Rosetta-translated).

As for crashing, as noted, if that occurred with your AMD-based computer, we won't go near it, but if it's crashing on the Intel, then filing an inquiry ticket allows us to collect some additional data you probably don't want shared on the forums here so we can troubleshoot further and find the cause.

Thanks!

Hi shingük,

i had similar problems and figured it out it was my slow HDD where i had the video files.

Rekordbox is analysing 8 per times.
With music files, thats no problem 8x 10mb no problem.
With video files, there comes a bottleneck 8x 130mb, well thats much.
This is only possible if you have it on a fast SSD.

Pioneer had to include an option how many to analyse parallel, this would fix it

My personal Workaround:
I put all new video files in a playlist and let them play over night and silenced.

see ya :-)

Hey Sandra, thanks for your comment.

I'm running SSDs on my laptop. The one where all my video files are is in a Samsung EVO 860 500GB SSD so I'm not sure if that's what's causing the issue.

ah ok, maybe there's another bug, but you can try my workaround if it works for you as well
