Using the RMX 500 as a soundcard

Hi Guys

1. Pioneer says RMX-500 is bus powered and can be used as a sound card - I have scoured the internet but haven't been able to get a clear answer on whather this is possible.
1. To connect the rmx-500 via USB to my laptop, buss power it via USB?
2. Select the RMX 500 as the soundcard in my DAW and route audio from my softsynths directly via USB into the RMX 500 and effect them?
3: If it is being used as a Soundcard does that disable the rca input on the unit? As theoretically You could have 2 streams of sounds effected (one virtual and one analogue via the RCA's summed into the unit.
Really hope someone can help!

It looks like a possible solution for putting in-line with some synths (virtual and hardwear) all in a tactile audio effect unit.

Thanks!

...could have two audio inputs then and I could add a second hardwear synth on the RCA ins. Anyway that is what I'm trying to figure out, appreciate if you can help!

Wait, where did you read / who told you the RMX-500 has an audio interface?

It does not.

Well paint my face red and call me Susan... I guess it does! All these years, I'd never noticed that. My mistake!

OK great thought I was going crazy!
Any thoughts on above? Bus power/DAW Audio in via USB/ Summing this audio with RCA inputs?
It will make a very handy effect unit in-line to my live synth and softsynth set up if so. Thanks for any advice!

Unfortunately not -- the hardware requires the DC input for power; it wasn't designed with bus-power in mind.

As for the audio routing, I'm not 100% sure as it would depend entirely on the configuration of the I/O. I was trying to dig up some info on it, but the service manual only has the schematics, not the audio path details. If the audio for the USB only goes direct to the output (or input) without first routing through the effects, then that wouldn't work. I'm trying to track down one of our demo DJs who might have one to test it.

Something that occurred to me... you're basically asking to use the RMX as a VST, but that already exists!

Grab the VST plugin here; then the RMX, when connected via USB, will act as a controller for the VST. It will allow you to effect the audio without needing to go out to the hardware and back (introducing latency).

I am confused - from the manual again:

Power to this unit is supplied by the AC adapter or by USB bus power.
This unit can be used by connecting it to a computer using a USB cable, even without connecting the AC adapter.
- Connect this unit and the computer directly using the included USB cable.
- Do not connect via a USB hub.
- Connect the computer to which this unit is to be connected to an AC power supply.
- The brightness of the buttons that light is dimmer when using on USB bus power.
- When running on USB bus power, the unit may not operate in the following cases:

My goal is to sum two audio paths(an external analogue novation synth and my softsynths inside akai VIP)
I currently have the RMX 1000 but what I only have subsequently seen is the soundcard and bus power capabilties of the 500, hence my interest in it - as it will require less set up with less plug points and audio jacks to plug in, a key issue with change overs at festivals.
