Rekordbox recorded mixes are coming out crackly

Hi there,

I am having trouble recording my mixes to my laptop. The recordings are often coming out crackly for the whole duration. I have used the same setup (2 XDJ700s with a DJM 450 mixer, I am just connecting the mixer to the laptop by USB cable to record on Rekordbox 5) for the past 12 months and the recordings from the first 6 months were crystal clear, over the last few months it is hit and miss.

I think it is possibly a cable problem but I have tried three different cables and there appears to be no rhyme or reason as to which mixes come out clear and which comes out crackly.

Does anyone with experience of this think that it might be something other than a cable problem? or is it just the positioning of the cable throughout the mix in the USB port (I have tried several different USB ports and this doesn't seem to make a difference either).

Help! It's so frustrating to smash an hour-long mix and then hear that it is ruined on playback.

Much appreciated,

Tom

Hey Tom,

There are a couple of possible causes:

1) Intel Turbo Boost (click here to read more on disabling it).

2) Background tasks / applications hogging system resources; check your activity monitor to see what other programs may be causing interruptions.

3) Poor motherboard design causing noise between the USB interface and other system circuits (such as the battery charging circuit). Sometimes this can be fixed with a ground-loop isolator, but not always.
