For years we've been told that it's our hardware that is too slow for Rekordbox, but even in 2020, on updated hardware and the fastest USB drives, Rekordbox is incredibly slow to do ANYTHING.
It might as well be renamed "Hangtime" as that's what it's best at doing.
You can say all you want about the extra little files and artwork it has to transfer, it still doesn't account for the some of the slowest transfer times known to mankind.
It's nowhere near optimised and never has been. Using it requires you to book out part of your day. Even deleting files is a chore, so much so that you might as well just get another USB when one becomes full.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree; I found ages ago that the export speeds for the files within rekordbox are almost exactly the same as when using the Finder or Explorer. The capacity for the drive to expeditiously write small files is the single largest contributing factor to a slow export.
Well you must be using a quantum computer.

I'm using a laptop from 2013 and have no issues whatsoever on export or performance mode - even with my collection (mostly FLAC) stored on external NAS drives.
Regarding export speed - just upgrade to decent USB-sticks. Ever since I got myself a pair of SanDisk Extreme Pro 3.1's exports have been lightning fast.
I can vouch for SanDisk Extreme Pro 3.1 and Samsung T5
formatted MBR/FAT for max compatibility with every CDJ out there.
I use the Rekordbox sync manager, In my experience after about 3 "syncs" it's faster to format the USB and sync from scratch then to update the drive.
Appreciate the additional feedback guys, thanks for your comments. The one thing I will note is that you may need to be careful with USB3.1 devices as some can have compatibility issues with older players. While 3.1 is supposed to be fully backwards-compatible with 3.0 and 2.0, those drives can sometimes fail to read in a player. This doesn't necessarily happen with all drives, but just a public-service-announcement so you aren't surprised if it happens.
Another vote for the Extreme Pro. Don't experience slow export with that unit. I have with Survivor Stealth, which is the reason I took it out of rotation.
And no I'm not part of the fanboy crew. But perhaps that is easier to accept when things are not what you hoped they were.
It takes me 20 seconds just to create a single folder to my library. Rekordbox 6 is incredibly slow.
I dont find rekordbox slow, but I do find cdjs slow to load tracks. Im using 3000s and loading a track there is a slight hand, then after its loaded a track it take a good 20 seconds or so before I can beat jumping through the song. Im coming from serato so I'm noticing that a lot

Pulse, I just looked into my USB drive and I think its a 3.0, which I thought was the fastest type (wouldn't be the first time im wrong though). I've attached a screengrab of the drive info. Is there anything I can do with this drive to make using the cdjs faster? Format to msdos perhaps?
If I am mistaken in thinking this is the fastest. Can you recommend a drive to purchase, or even specs to look at when making my next purchase. I want it to be lighting quick - like serato

My personal preferences are:
- SanDisk Extreme Pro USB3.0
- Corsair Voyager GTX USB3.0
- Samsung T5 SSD
They're expensive, but they're fast and reliable.
The Sandisk Extreme Pro (3.1) is around 40€, not bad for such a high performance device. 100% worth the speed and stability. I have never had any problems with older decks but I guess I haven't gone back in time longer than the original 2000 model...
Yeah I just started looking at the specs of these ones you guys suggested and they're waaaay faster than the one I'm currently using so definitely need to upgrade this. I just presumed all usb3.0 were equal but thats clearly not the case.
The Samsung SSD is almost 5 times faster than my current one.
