Did you...
- install Big Sur 11.2?
- install the updated drivers AND allow them through security?
Finally the new drivers have landed and I can use the DDJ 1000 with Big Sur, but I don't have the option to output the audio from the DDJ 1000, only the internal mac speaker.
It's there, I can use it, and I can make all the adjustments I need, I can change all the preferences for the gear etc. I just dont have the option to select the output audio.
Any ideas?

Hi Pulse, yes it's 11.2 and no, the prompt never appears and never has. Though it does ask for my password, I never get the security screen as described in the PDF document.
Page 3:
https://www.pioneerdj.com/-/media/pioneerdj/downloads/other/troubleshooting/important-notice-for-installing-the-driver-software-on-macos-bigsur_e.pdf
I get the user/password dialogue, but I have NEVER seen the security and privacy screen pop-up
Try this:
sudo kextcache --clear-staging
Thanks for your help pulse, it still hasn't worked, I have NEVER seen that driver permission screen, not even with the older drivers and 11.1.
I give up.
Any one want an M1 Mac Mini?
back to windows
You need to be on 11.2....
Can you email me the system profile report? Open your System Information application, wait 3 minutes, then save the SPX file. Email it to me at forums@pioneerdj.com.
I have exactly the same problem. I also didn;t get the security request to give permissions, it just installed straight through. There are no audio options within Rekordbox other than 'Built-in Output', so it will play through the Mac speakers, but that is it. Everything else seems to work as expected, the jog wheels now light up and show track info, etc. There is just no sound coming out of it on Master 1 or Master 2.
I have folloowed the steps above, but no difference. I'm running 11.2.
I have Windows that can run as a VM on the same Mac using Parallels. I've tried using the DDJ1000 with Rekordbox in that, no problem, audio is playing through the Master Outputs and there are audio options to select the DDJ 1000 ASIO driver in settings.
So this is definitely a Big Sur problem still. It seems your new driver still isn't working, or I'm missing a key step. I'll email you my SPX file too.
I had this today on M1 macbook air, you need to enable the ability to allow system extensions as a user from within Recovery mode. It seems that by default Big Sur puts the system into a "Full Security" mode which encrypts the drive and disables the ability to approve extensions from within Security & Privacy [possibility this option only available with M1 based Macs]. So you need to boot the mac into recovery mode to access this option to lower the security setting -
https://iboysoft.com/howto/enable-system-extension-m1-mac.html
So
1) Uninstall any drivers currently installed and reboot to start fresh.
2) Power machine down then press and hold the TouchID (Macbook Air) button or whatever button you need to hold to boot into recovery mode.
3) Navigate around using the above link for directions on where to go and what to do and make the changes.
4) Restart.
5) Run the installer for the drivers, as outlined by Pulse just before, it'll ask you to open security & prefs to validate the extension, do that, click the lock, make the change, approve the thing - job done.
6) Restart for good measure.
Had no issues yet :)
I'm also not sure what happens if you go back and reenable the encryption...
** Update to say we have still have no issues with M1 Mac Air 11.2.1 w/ Rekordbox & DDJ-1000
@mArty, I solved it, finally, though it cost me 8 hours and a complete system restore and all my settings, apps, and downloads.
Ah well, I didn't have anything planned this weekend.
mArty is corrrect, I had to reboot into recovery mode and disable the incredibly stringent security that was on by default. So whomever writes the PDF files, they need to add these instructions ASAP or more people will end up frustrated and angry.
I can't upload the image here because it's 4MB and there's a 2MB limit, so it's on my site, sorry.
https://dj-daz.com/viewtopic.php?p=274#p274
But that should help explain it a tiny bit.
Thank you for your time though Pulse.
Thanks for that info mArty; I've passed it to our engineers to see if there is anything they can do to have the drivers install without those steps, or at the very least, include instructions.
Hi @mArty, this only seems to be an option for Macs with M1 processors - there doesn't seem to be a reduced security option for intel based Macs. Not sure what the solution is, but clearly there is some issue with the way the driver is installing. It doesn't trigger the security preferences request and whilst it says its installed, it hasn't fully done that.
Hi all, well I've tried everything I can find. Nothing works.
So @Pulse and @mArty, yes these solutions work for the internal drive (Macintosh HD), but I'm using an external NVMe SSD and these fixes don't work.
I CANNOT change the security setting for an external drive, I just get an error that there's no administrator, and the fix for that doesn't work.
I'm really not sure who's at fault, is it apple for not thinking that someone might want to use an external drive, after all the internal drive will one day die, and their security isn't setup for this scenario. Or is it Pioneer's fault for creating a driver that requires a convoluted install?
This might explain my frustration:

Apple. Definitely Apple. lol
If you're trying to do anything from an external boot drive, then you're DEFINITELY trying to skirt the "secure enclave," so it's not even Apple to blame. <wink>
Nothing was making the audio come out of the Master and there was no option in Audio to select the DDJ-1000, despite everything else looking OK. I eventually backed up and wiped the Mac; did a fresh install of Big Sur 11.2 and then added Rekordbox and the 3.0.0 driver. It worked. Quite an extreme option though and looks more of an Apple issue than the driver; something in accumulated updates and how that effects security settings perhaps.
Anyway, all working now and just a matter of reinstalling all my other software...
Hello Pioneer Tech Support! Your Update for Big Sur is a FAIL..I followed your upgrade information and have my MBPRO on the latest version on Big Sur which is 11.2.1. Here is my issue the Controller shows to be connected, it loads songs and the play/pause works. The unfortunate thing is that no pad lights, no cue circle, basically no lights but it does respond. Now to make it work I do the Virtual DJ Fix and all works. Basically Open Virtual DJ let it recognize the 1000-SRT then open Serato and close Virtual DJ BAM all Pads, lights, cue circles, etc work. The pain in the rear is I have to do this every time I open/close Serato. Any ideas on a permanent fix?
Sorry for the delay Pulse, I know it's definitely apple's issue now after talking to their 1st and 2nd line support.
It's impossible to reduce the security on the EXTERNAL NVMe due to their security protocols. I honestly can't understand why, if you have that kind of access to a machine, you can get anything and everything you want off it. I certainly won't be buying a Mac again though.
So I have streamlined the internal SSD and boot items, and when I'm using the deck I boot to that drive.
When I'm doing just about everything else, I boot to the external NVMe. It's not ideal, but it only takes a minute and it works.
Thanks for your help though.
@Art Hed'Z, I can't confirm it, but I read last week that Serato are still having all sorts of problems with Big Sur, now, I didn't pay much attention to it because I don't use it, they may have already fixed these issues too, so don't quote me.
Hey Marty, no my friend it's a good question.
The mini as you know has a solid state SSD, it's soldered directly to the main board. I know from experience of working as a PC bench technician for nearly 15 years, that things go wrong, and as it's a new main board, it's going to be expensive. How much for an apple replacement? I guess around the £500 mark, going off quotes I've seen around the web.
I also push the hardware to it's limits. I use the mini as a Plex server (lots and lots of caches and tiny files, all taking up precious cells, and a lot of reading but more importantly... writing! It's writing that destroys SSD's, reading is fine and it can last decades before it degrades.
I also use if for Rekordbox (obviously) and as a NAS for my other gear around the home and I love Apple arcade. So yeah I do stress it quite hard.
Filling up an SSD doesn't only degrade it, it slows it down, and I've also provisioned 20GB for cell wear. So the original 250GB, after provisioning and the recovery system is around 230GB.
Then you have to account for 8GB of RAM. It really isn't enough in this day and age, it really should be 16GB for better performance and less use of virtually memory and more writing to the SSD, and what's worse, it can't be upgraded.
By running it as a dual boot system lets me do all the things I want, but it also lets me streamline it for use with RB and maximise the life of the internal drive.
So the things I do aren't necessarily about logical storage, it's about longevity. This way, baring a Carrington event, EMP strike, or just a simple power spike, then the internal drive should hopefully last years and years before I am left with an aluminium brick.
BTW that means, as soon as I'm finished with RB, I boot back to the external drive. When I want to use RB, I boot to the internal.
Sorry, last paragraph I promise.
If I could run it solely from the external drive, I would and it would mean the internal just contains the boot code. Should the external drive die, I can replace it in minutes for minimal cost.
@Art > Yeah, the fix for that is to wait for Serato to update DJ Pro to be Big Sur-compatible. Sorry, that's not on our end - the controller interfaces just fine with the OS.
@Pioneer so what is the update listed below for if not for Big Sur. As I read on your website it says it is verified and complete. Are your saying I will need a newer version than 2.45 Serato Pro despite these Pioneer Downloads?
Those are the drivers. They allow it to communicate with the computer.
Yes, Serato needs to update their software.
@Pioneer do we have a time Frame? I don't want to go through setting up a new partition on my MPRO if the release is near.
Sorry, it's Serato's product so we have no information.
@Pulse i have the same issue , the DDJ-1000 is connected but no audio can be played out of it. I'm using an Intel Mac with Big Sur , the issue happened after the upgrade....Can you please help?
@Omar > Did you follow the installation instructions as linked on the driver download page?
@Pulse yes kept reinstalling the driver with no luck. Can you help please as i'm completely stuck in this issue.
I'm running macOS Big Sur 11.2.1 , Rekordbox 6.5.0 and driver version 3.0.0.
@Omar > I'll ask you to please file an inquiry ticket here, you can copy and paste what you've already tried here so our support team knows what you've done already; they'll gather some additional information to assist you in resolving this issue. Thanks!
Hello everyone.
I decided to install Big Sur update today to a Mac running Intel chip and have been dealing with this same issue from OP. Everything was working fine in rekordbox and my DDJ-1000, except that the audio was coming out of my Mac speakers and there was no option to get it out of the DDJ.
I uninstalled, rebooted and re-installed several times until I run into this post. The thing that worked for me was the recommendation from @Pulse about running the following command:
sudo kextcache --clear-staging
That made it for me!! And I believe this should definitely go into the instructions to install the new driver.
I have an Intel MacBook Pro. I tried to install the audio driver on Big Sur 11.16 about 15 times without any luck.
The manual clearly states to unplug your controller before installing the driver. Well for my final try before restoring back to Catalina, I decided to install the driver with the controller plugged in and it worked.
Not sure why the instructions say to unplug it.
I first uninstalled the driver after using the kextcache command mentioned here.
Then after reboot, I plugged in my controller and powered it on before installing the driver again. This time the security notice popped up and I allowed it.
After reboot, DDJ-1000 appeared in my list of audio devices.
