DDJ-SX3 Platter/Jog Wheel Sensitivity Issue

So i'm experiencing an intermittent issue when i'm skimming through a track using the platter the sensitivity drops significantly. I could try back-spinning as fast as possible and it wont even nudge half a bar.

I can usually resolve this issue by restarting either the hardware/software or both simultaneously.

This is the third time I've encountered this in a week and its incredibly frustrating. I've looked online and seen people complaining about similar issues using the  DDJ-SX models.

I've already updated to the latest version of Serato Pro & double checked that the DDJ-SX3 firmware is up to date too.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

As the jogs are capacitive, it could certainly be an issue with the environment you're in or the amount of static in the air (also affected by changes in humidity or grounding of components).

You can try adjusting the sensitivity of the jogs - see page 35 of the owner's manual.

Thank you for the info. The only thing I could imagine is if I'm generating too much static from my carpet and then its interfering with the hardware. I've had these for around 8 months from new and until recently never encountered this. My setup and its environment hasn't changed either.

I did try adjusting the sensitivity but it doesn't make any difference when the issue reproduces, either min/max sensitivity, it still moves so slowly (unusable) until I regain normal function or restart the unit.

What's the protocol to follow if I want to request an official service of the hardware to check for any internal grounding issues or things of that nature?

Another thing that might help is to connect yourself to the earthing of the SX3 :-). I know it varies greatly from air humidity for me, as I have a very dry skin. And with other devices in out of country setups, the jogs would not even react to my skin.

My first touch on the SX3 is never seen. My second touch works usually though.

Anyway, there is this screw on the back of the sx3 for earthing. You can try attaching a wire to that and holding that. If that works you might try an anti-static discharge bracelet connected to that if just discharging yourself once does not help.

Discharge is not the right term. You are merely making your potential the same as that of the SX3, and by that hopefully your charge won't influence the capacitive sensors.

Anyway: the sensors should only register touch or no touch. The functionality of the jog changes from touching the top ("scratch") and the side (speed bump). Make sure you always touch the metal top. Not the plastic.

The jog itself probably uses an optical encoder. So what I assume happens is that your finger is deregistered as touching the metal top, and the software starts to do reverse speed bump, and yes, you will go nowhere with that.

As the Pioneer support has stated: you can change the sensitivity of the touch. You can also try to make sure your fingers are not too dry or greasy, and you have touched the device at least once. And with long backspin, make sure your finger is in the middle of the metal top and always has a good connection.

If that doesn't work, you might reassign it to do scratch or speedbump by a button, not by the top touch, i.e. eliminating the use of the sensor completely.
