Since scenes seem to work kind of like songs, it would be very helpful if I could name the scene something meaningful other than 1, 2, 3, etc. When playing live, it's difficult to keep track of which scene/pattern should be played next if you want to play them out of order.

The function you desired has already been included in the latest version 1.30.
You will be able to use the SCENE Import/Export feature.
If you use this feature, you can name each SCENE as you like. Also, if you open the SCENE MANAGER, you can see the SCENE names during the live performance.

I would like this as well. Perhaps patterns could also be named?
Speaking of names, it would be great if the name of the current project (+ scene, + pattern) were displayed at the top of the screen.
