E8709 Error on CDJ 850 while updating firmware

Hi

I just got a set of CDJ-850s that were purchased a couple of years ago, but used for a little and then never touched again. These are in perfect condition and I used them with USBs for about a week, everything was working perfectly.

I wanted to use these with Traktor, so downloaded all the software/drivers for the decks, and also updated the firmware to the latest version (1.12). When updating, it is meant to show DOWNLOADING - old versions number => new version number.

Where its suppose to show the new version number 1.12, it was blank - but still completed the firmware. I think I used the wrong type of USB (It wasnt MS-FAT) while updating.

Now when I turn on the decks, they go straight to E-8709 message, and I am unable to work with them.

Is there anything I can do to reset the devices, as clearly something has gone wrong when updating the firmware??? I did it step by step as per the manual, so am very upset that this has caused my decks to crash, expect I forgot the put the USB as a MS-FAT and I think that’s where it messed up. Now when I try to upgrade the firmware again using Reloop+USB, it won’t even come up.

I’m extremely upset as I had just bought this and in my country (Brasil) it is extremely expensive for anything related to electronics. I'm shocked that the best answer Pioneer has is take it to a specialist for something like this? How is there no way to reupdate the system?

Thanks

Will

Try the firmware update again with a FAT32 formatted drive.

but when i press the usb + reloop at start up nothing happens. It won't let me update firmware anymore. Is there anyway of doing with USB ---> computer? Like a full reset on the software?

Hi Will,

I encountered this same problem and have not been able to find a solution in the forums. After researching, I found out that this can be solved simply be resetting the CDJ to factory setting: (Press these buttons simultaneously: USB, Back and Power button). Done. I don't know why even the pioneer people cannot suggest this.

Great reply, Pioneer. So updating the firmware with a FAT32 formatted drive ALWAYS fixes the problem? You suggested that.

No, but we use a "start here and work up" type troubleshooting.

If your computer freezes during use do you format it and reinstall the operating system?

@Oswald > Please try using a different USB drive and try again. If that doesn't help, please file an inquiry ticket here and our support team will gather some additional information to assist you in resolving this issue.
