Dead (no current) USB Ports. Again. Second Opus-Quad.

Ordered on the day it dropped, but still number-twenty something on the back-order list, my delivery took almost two months by the time Sweetwater had mine and overnighted it to me, almost to the day they estimated it should arrive.

Then disaster.  First one, then the other deck-top USB sockets died by day four.  USB1 and USB2. Neither recognized anything. My USB tester read zero current output from both, confirming it was a hardware issue, not a software glitch.  May 6th, I contacted my reliably attentive Sweetwater rep Joe after sending Pioneer an email which who-knows-when anybody would have gotten back to me.

After only a couple of hours Joe called back with a verdict from Pioneer.  Seems they already had some familiarity with this problem and confirmed it was likely hardware related, like I'd thought.  Given that Pioneer admitted there were no Opus-Quad repair parts in the supply pipeline yet and for the foreseeable future, all because it's too-new and too heavily backordered, unless I wanted a refund (no) all they could do is over-night me the next available Opus-Quad they get. Which might be around the end of June.

July 1st.  Today.  My long awaited replacement arrived this morning.

And after joyously setting it up and playing with visiting friends for a few hours, USB1 DIED.

Just like before, zero current.

DAMN. I hadn't even boxed, much less shipped back the first busted Opus Quad. That one goes out Monday.

Joe at Sweetwater actually prepared me for this possibility two months ago, warning me there was no guarantee this wouldn't happen again, as Pioneer had acknowledged that backordered units in the pipeline might have this flaw, so logically I understood.  But... come on, REALLY?  Why me?  How many of you have experienced this?

When the first one broke a few months ago, after posting on a FB group a DJ from the UK shared with me the same experience, but got it repaired locally (London?).  Seems it was just a blown resistor, easy to replace.  Didn't say if they changed it's value.

Don't know what happens Monday when I hear back from Sweetwater.  Another swap?  How long?  Also, I live in fear that at any moment any of the remaining USB slots could die.   No telling how long before I'm once again relegated to being able to only play tracks through the Opus'Quad's thankfully reliable, although somewhat laggy, wireless Pioneer DJ Link.

I think Pioneer at least owes me a cloud subscription that'll let me use my playlists from my IOS Rekordbox, not just the unsorted tracks.  Because I haven't figured out how to do that yet without one.

HELP anyone.  Ideas?

I also can't use USB port 1 & 2, only USB port 3 still alive of my Opus quad.

Is that firmware problem?

i responded to you under my original post but i'll add here too ..

I'm the original poster (hi!) and I also the guy who posted on FB about this issue,  I got so much shit on facebook,  people telling me i was talking rubbish and faking it (for what reason i have no idea)  but I think its definitely a design fault

I ordered mine day one and got my device 2 days later,  the next day i plugged in an old USB drive and it did indeed blow a resistor,  I spoke to BOPDJ and they said to log an issue with Pioneer and  to be fair to pioneer as soon as I logged the issue they gave me a list of local repair shops,  I booked it in and got it repaired in about 3 days

I actually drove the two hours to pick it back up and I spoke to the engineer who fixed it,  he said he had had another booked in while mine was there with the same issue, but this chap had plugged a mobile phone into it

He said he thought it was a design fault as it only had a 1amp (this might be wrong, it might be milliamps (i'm a DJ not an electronics engineer :) but he said whatever it was he thought the resistor was too small .. and that I should be careful what I plug in .. he said he did inform pioneer of the fault (which is the process I believe)

Since then I tend not to plug anything in except my scandisk ssd .. (i dont play out, its just for home/studio use) and most of the time i just use rekordbox in export mode and connect wirelessly to it

Sorry to hear you guys are also having problems I hope Pioneer get their act together  and announce they will fix them all, its certainly a problem,  i should be able to plug whatever i like into it (within reason)
