DJM 900 Nexus: Very loud NOISE Color FX

sometimes,i have the same problem. The music volume on the channel is ok and and in the green zone. But when i use the noise effet on the channel, then it's very loud. But, some other times, then the noise effect is ok. I don't know what i mistake?

You've got the ability to assign NOISE to an unused channel and can then control its level better by using the channel fader.

Thanks Pulse. Has Pioneer acknowledged this as a problem, or my mixer defective and I need to return it? I'd like to know if a (firmware?) fix is coming.

It's not a problem, per-se, but we gather feedback and send it to the engineers for future consideration in updates.

We all use effects differently and I'm extremely happy with the noise effect and its loudness, I personally don't think it needs changing.  I use it mostly assigned to un-used fader and use the fader for a variable volume slider whilst mixing.  I agree with Pulse it's not a problem.. just play with it and find what volume you are happy with :-)

I'm with MrChukkel and Pulse.

I like the Noise effect as it is because it provides more control over the effect by being able to assign the high or low pass with the volume level.

I have always used it on an open channel and I have become use to how much volume to give the channel so the effect can enter silently without a sudden change.

But to answer your questions:

- Sorry but it isn't fixable/changeable

- Yes, regardless the input mode it will stay at the same level

- No it is not a problem or a defect with your DJM-900 :)

- There probably won't be a firmware update around this soon as the very first update was to increase the Sound Color Effects

- Nope, no mistake on your end

- Yes your volume will increase because the "Noise" actually adds the effect on top of the music, therefore adding more volume. :) 

IMO NOISE FX is working as intended. I have never slammed the White Noise on the channel that I have music playing on. You apply it to a channel not in use so you can control the volume of it and use the dry wet to manipulate the noise pitch. Try it out that way and see if you get the results you been looking for.

Hi, everyone - 

I think I'm getting closer to the issue here and posting pics to help explain it. Went to guitar center, where the DJM 900 was plugged into CDJs, and the NOISE Color FX is behaving at normal volume (as expected) perfectly fine - see first image, COLOR is set to MAX (5pm position) with 3 bars of sound. The second Image shows the color knob at the 3pm position with 6 bars, as expected. This is via the CD/LINE input, you can see the RCA cables in the back. 

NOW. At my house, using USB, and NOT RCA connections, you can see the 3pm position of the color knob completely blows out the sound, while the 5pm position has 10 bars. This is about 3x (3 times) louder than with CDJs. 

Anyone else experiencing this with the USB connection?

Here is another example. Photo 1 audio coming in via Traktor via USB. and Photo 2 shows what happens when I turn the noise knowb to the 3pm position - uber loudness. Compared to photo 2 above (my previous post in this thread), the noise color FX tripples in volume. 

Help please, what am I doing wrong? 

@Ivan > It's possible -- no wait, extremely likely, that the mixer @ GC had an older fimware than yours does; the noise was loudened in an update and as such, you'll notice a difference in units where it hasn't been updated.

The loudness is normal; if you don't want it so loud, assign it to an unused channel and pull the channel fader down a bit.

@Pulse thanks again for the info. Can you confirm on YOUR DJM 900 the levels are about the same? I keep asking this (and for the last time I think), because I find it hard to believe that if you accidentally push NOISE, from say FILTER, you'll completely blow out the ears of your audience. 

@Ivan. Are you sure its not the problem of your trim being too high? 

In your first picture http://forums.pioneerdj.com/attachments/token/jnkippbrqaky7go/?name=photo_1.JPG Even though the knobs have for some reason been removed, judging by the way that half circle shape is facing, it seems like the trim is pretty low. 

In your second picture http://forums.pioneerdj.com/attachments/token/aaa6rtup14bwbfv/?name=photo_3.JPG The trim is way up there in the middle.

I have a feeling that this might be your problem.

@Ivan, no Im actually talking about the trim. Which is circled in these pictures.
