DJM-2000 firmware update...?

Really don't mean to cause a stir, but I'm curious what happened to the firmware update for the DJM-2000 and when we can expect to see it?

I work in software myself and I know how deadlines can slip, my frustration lies less in it not being done on time and more on the fact that the engineers must have known it wouldn't be ready to ship by end of November a few days ago, and they could have taken 10 minutes to communicate this fact to the customers.

I actually think most of pioneer's CS issues here would be greatly resolved if the people actually doing the work would take the time to communicate with the customers. :)

Anyway, just curious if there has been a new target date set or if we're just going to float around not knowing what's happening from this point forward.

Gavin had said that it'll be out this week coming.  But don't get your hopes up,  it ain't the first time they told us that we're getting an update.  All we can do is wait unfortunately. Them giving us dates don't help.

Having had a few accounts of mine suspended here for speaking of the facts, I totally agree with you, but, the fact that Pioneer finally shared some information with us, the customers, is a very good thing.  I am not happy about this situation from beginning to the end (now).

Having said that, I do think we should all just wait a week and give them a brake this time.  They are sharing some info which is better than where we were a few months ago and also being in software as well, a lot of the times, last minute touches are needed.

Lets all just go back to our game consoles for a week and let these guys do their thing and hopefully as Gavin has tried to say not in so many words, maybe our expectations will be exceeded here with this new firmware update.

MESSAGE TO PIONEER & ENGINEERS:

*As a true loyal customer of yours for years now I would like to seriously suggest that in a situation like this, there are a lot of us who would gladly test out your firmware.  Why not put your firmwares available to us somehow so WE as your end users can provide you with hands on excellent feedback. Not suggestions for new stuff but feedback on the actual functionality of the changed parameters. I would like to point out the obvious that this could in turn cut costs form the quality assurance department and go a long way with PR.  If I was in charge, I would fancy this idea and at the very least put an internal pros & cons list together as a consideration.  You would not have to post it, you can have people like me sign up for it and sign a waiver to agree not to complain about the issues they may or not may find.  *

Best regards,

*The man with many names here ;)

I'd prefer to just wait and be surprised when updates come out.  As opposed to feeling deflated every time a release date is missed.  Just wait. :)

And Beta firmware testing?  Can't see that happening.

@Marsano I feel like pretty much every Xbox update has been extensively publicly beta tested and released on an announced date? Also, they don't promise two sets of users XBox updates, deliver them to one and not deliver them to another. ;)

@jean luc > marketing had made the announcement that the DJM-2000nexus would start shipping at the end of the month and gave the impression the firmware would become available at the same time. Unfortunately that was not the case and misinterpreted by many - an announcement about the release of the update was not planned until December. @RedTurbo > I've been told an announcement in relation to the update will be available this week.

The Xbox is not a DJM, Microsoft is not Pioneer. Both companies have HQs in different regions and the corporate culture is systematically different in both companies.

Pioneer are working hard to please all their customers.

@Gavin greatly appreciate you taking the time to respond. i'm not trying to say you have to be MS either, but again, the way I feel is that it seemed a pretty common misconception that the firmware was shipping end of November and I've been following threads fairly closely and not seen any information to prove otherwise until just now. The communication channels just need to be more clear, we've invested a lot of money into Pioneer hardware, and as someone who came to see the Nexus be announced literally days outside of the return period of my DJM2000mk1 it's of particular interest to me that the update actually make it out so I don't feel like I got the short end of it.

All the same, thanks for doing the job you're doing, I know you must be in a tough position. I really do appreciate the update.

@jean luc > I can guarantee the update is coming and coming soon but as for an exact date, I haven't been able to narrow it down.

To be fair Gavin it appears you misinterpreted it also as you clearly stated in another thread that an update would be coming at the end of November and even went further to say it was "set in stone".

Pioneer really have dropped the ball with regard to customer service over the last 2 years.

Absolutely - I'm not denying it. I can only pass along the information I'm given - and it seems the statement I received was ambiguous. I can only apologise.

you're an ok guy Gavin.  I have been angry my self but this is not your fault and we are finally days away from this update.  I am sure we'll all survive a few more days.

Keep up the good work.

Don't get me wrong Gavin, I'm not attaching blame to either you or Pulse, you can only pass on information you have been given and been allowed to.

In my opinion you have both been put in an invidious position by Pioneer's seemingly cavalier attitude to customers who have paid premium prices but received products that have not operated 100% as advertised.

This truly is a case of "actions speak louder than words" and in the case of some products, such as the DJM2000, the repeated answer of "soon", when asked about when an update is likely, went on for way too long and, inevitably, antagonised the customers.

Everybody knows that problems occur, but what sets the good businesses apart from the poor is the way the problems and the customers are dealt with when they do.

Pioneer really need to learn from what has happened over the last 18months to 2 years. Being industry standard means nothing if the customer is left high and dry when problems occur. If their response continues to be one of denial then customers will vote with their feet in the end.

It's happened before to big businesses and it will happen again. Complacency is a very dangerous attitude to have in the business world.

Will somebody PLEASE tell me how to insert paragraphs on this forum!

A wall of text is annoying!

I'm using an iPad, is that the reason?

It's (insert expletive) December.

Can we have the update so I can ACTUALLY sell my DJM2000 as Pioneer has thouroughly dropped the ball on customers here.

I don't want to be on these forums anymore but Pioneer, you need to do right by the customer on this mixer, not months ago, but over a year ago.

@MUSICHAOS it's not like the mixer isn't currently functional? are you having problems other than missing out on new features? i've been using it exclusively for months now and not had any significant trouble.

In my view, this is actually the most serious issue - people are focussing on the firmware and not on the actual mixer.

It IS fully functional.  Yes it could benefit from minor alterations and hopefully a few tweaks (*cough* 100% fade on Jet Pioneer *ahem*) but aside from that it's still a powerhouse.
