The DJM 850 "booth" is a 1/4 inch Balance input connector. So you will need a 1/4 inch connector to an RCA.
Hello,
In DJM documentation (DJM-850 in my example), it is written that BOOTH output supports both balanced and unbalanced connexions.
I would like to connect this BOOTH output (2 x TRS) to an unbalanced stereo RCA input (2 x RCA/cinch).
Which type of cable should I use ?
2 x TS (mono jack 6.35) <--> RCA/cinch ?
Is there any short-circuit possible plugging a TS connector into the TRS BOOTH input ?
(does DJM detects that it has a TS connector in its TRS input ?)
Thank you very much for your help !

Pete, thank you for your answer.
I would like to know which type of 1/4 connector (to a RCA) to use : mono (TS) or stereo (TRS) ?
As the destination is a RCA I would tell mono, but is there any short-circuit possible plugging a mono (TS) connector into the balanced (TRS) booth ?
(does DJM detects that it has a TS connector in its TRS booth ?)
According to Wikipedia, sounds like we can, seems that "ring" (part 2 of the connector) can be ground, as "sleeve" (part 1 of the connector).

Am I right ?
Thank you very much !
And regular 1/4 inch to RCA will work. Stereo... Mono.. Shouldn't be an issue... As far as I know, The cables I purchase don't have stereo or mono tags on them. But then again im not looking. I just look at what sizes I need to get. Just go to any Music store and pick up the cables.
After some researches, and according to the following link :
http://www.rane.com/note110.html
we must use connection configuration 10b if DJM BOOTH output does not use a transformer nor a cross-coupled output stage (but transistors or Op Amps).
we must use connection configuration 12 if DJM BOOTH output uses a transformer or a cross-coupled output stage.
Difference consists in connecting one of the two or both signal conductors.
So my question is, does the DJM (850 in my own example) BOOTH output uses :
- transistors or Op Amps.
?
So that we will know exactly which type of cable to use for a BOOTH balanced output to an unbalanced input configuration !
Thank you very much !
You can use either a balanced (TRS) or unbalanced (TS) cable and it will not harm the mixer in any way, nothing will be shorted.
Pulse, thank you very much for your answer !
However, what is the best solution ?
Technical documentation I gave indicates that depending on the hardware, the cabling method for TRS to TS differs.
Do you know how BOOTH output is balanced ?
method 1 : using a transformer / a cross-coupled output stage ?
method 2 : using transistors / Op Amps ?
According to that we will know exactly which cabling method to use.
Thank you very much !
@Ben > The Booth Output is TRS (See the FAQ). Beyond that, I'd need to ask the engineers.
Hello Gavin,
Thank you for your answer ! If you could ask the engineers directly, it would be really perfect !
Thank you very much !
Ben
I've asked. When I hear back from them I'll be in touch.
@Ben > The engineers replied with the following:
"Method 1, using TS-RCA cable, is recommended."
Hi Gavin,
That's perfect, thank you very much for this clear answer ! :-)
Ben
You're welcome!
