[CLOSED] Pioneer HDJ-2000 Rubber Cracking Quality

I purchased my Pioneer HDJ-2000 in April, I bought these for there quality and build. All metal frame/joints. I figured these would hold up to anything and expected the best quality/build. For headphones with a MSRP of 350.00$ I am disappointed in the rubber coating surrounding the plastic parts bringing that "soft touch" feeling to the headphones. Ive contacted Tech Support with no luck at all, maybe showing pictures a Representative could help me out here. I still have my "1 year Warranty" and I purchased through a Authorized dealer. I am unable to located any warranty information in my box from my original purchase I have saved everything. I would like to keep telling people these are the best headphones Ive owned.

Something must be wrong with those specific headphones, mine have been treated to all kinds of abuse since almost 2 years and they show some wear but not remotely as bad

Thanks for the comment, glad someone is interested. Ive contacted Pioneer and was told to send my headphones out to Long Beach, Cali. I asked if I could send these High Res photo's to the warranty dept before i send them out to see if they are covered before I ship them at my cost. I can not. I also question the warranty policy as to being unable to locate it in my box from original purchase or internet  means through google and navigating the Pioneer website. Apparently its not located online for some reason. I was faxed the information, what a inconvenience that was. I will scan this and post on this thread shortly for you guys. Also the whole shipping of the headphones to the warranty department not the best system. I was told write my contact information on some paper so they could contact me and let me know if its warrant-able. I asked if there was a form i could fill out located on the website or possibly emailed to me. There is not, Ive seen many company's use a form that you fill out stating all the contact information they need, reason being sent in, and any other information. Its more professorial and leaves me without any questions if I did not send them any needed information. Also you are not given any sort of Case# untill your items arrive to pioneer, so I have no means on keeping update until Pioneer receives my headphones and has contacted ME. Still hoping to hear from a rep on this website. Ive Included the Warranty Info that was Faxed to me for anyone else with headphone warranty questions.

@Phillip > It seems that you either have a very unique body chemistry or you've dipped the headphones in something that's caused the rubber / plastic to peel.  I've seen the leather pads on the headphones peel and crack from certain people, but never anything along the locations you show.

Unfortunately this may be a bit like a car; certain wear-and-tear is not covered, such as the tires.  If you bought a new car, drove the car 1 block from the dealer and the sidewall of the tire failed, you'd have no warranty with the dealer for the tires and chances are the manufacturer of the tire would give you a runaround too -- even though you'd only had the car for 1 block.

Because people have different body chemistries, materials will react differently to individuals' sweat.  As I said, this is the first time I've seen that kind of peeling, especially around the ear-cups (perhaps that's where you grab the headphones?), and I'm not certain that Pioneer would cover it, warranty or not, but you've certainly taken the right steps in pursuing it with PUSA.

I'm going to show the photos to the engineering team in Japan and see what they have to say.

Thank you for the reply, These headphones have not been dipped in any liquid. It appears to me its possible contact with my body around the back of my neck and the bottom of my neck. I am hopping maybe the rubber coating did not ad hear properly to the headphones during the manufactures process and would be covered. I bought these headphones for build quality in the swinging joints/hinges but sadly the coating is my issue. I hope this issue can be resolved quickly and efficiently. Thank you again and anything you can do to help me or this situation out is gratefully appreciated. Also i do not wear any necklaces or chains of any sorts so wear tear from that is ruled out. I will be updating this as i receive information and will be sending my headphones out within the next business day. I would also really like to see the suggestion of  the warranty information being listed under the products information page @  http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/DJ/Headphones/HDJ-2000  under "Manuals and Brochures". There is no way to locate this information other than by means of fax.

I wish the rubber coating on my would last longer than 3months ;/ i still consider these new in my mind and for them to be breaking down already is a bummer. I expected wear and tear depicted in your picture wally, ear cups and leather but the rubber finish still appears to be intact. The wear I have is 3months about a 1/12th of the time you owned yours, Id hate to see what mine are going to look like in 6months =/ I was hoping to get at least 2 1/2 to 3 yrs

I also have the same on my headphones but only on the pioneer band across the top. I can also say that mine have in no way been around any liquids.

I expected more for a set of Pioneer headphones, especially with the cost of them. Mine are only just over 1 year old!!

I've had my (second pair) just over two years now and they look just as good as the day they first arrived...

I don't think it is body chemistry. Mine are starting to peel at the top of the band where it says Pioneer (a place where no part of my body comes in contact with.) In addition, I have only had my HDJ-2000's for about 3 weeks. I am wondering if it is just certain models that are doing this, and if so how can I exchange mine for a better pair. I was originally going to get the Beats by Dre Pros because of the comments I read about their "strong build" however I chose to go with the HDJs because I thought they would last a long time. It has only been 3 weeks of me owning them and already the headband portion is starting to peel.

@DNero > We're not attempting to deceive or lie to you in any way - in our experience, we've seen many pairs of headphones become less than aesthetically pleasing due to handling and body chemistry. My guess is that your hand comes into contact with the band at stages or may be left placed in the sun or something - I can only assume. I've three pairs of HDJ-2000s (two black pairs and one white) and I've never had any issues that anyone refers to on these boards.
