[SOLVED] HDJ 2000 Headphones stink. Smell unbearable

Hey guys, I bought my HDJ2000's around January of 2013. It's been just a little under 2 years I've had these, but within the last few months, I've noticed they have began to smell to the point where I can't even wear them. The pads aren't cracked or anything, so I don't want to blow $50 on replacements. Does anyone know how to clean these and get rid of the smell? Thanks!

Interesting... What does is smell like?... Wet rag? Glue? Toxic? Mould/must? Rotting flesh?

They smell like moldy/sweaty. . . i wipe them down with a rag after every gig. I've tried, febreze, cologne, dryer sheets, odor eater spray, put odor balls in the headphone case and nothing seems to get rid of the smell

Hmmm, it may just be time to replace. Maybe try removing the pads and putting them through the wash? It sounds like the sponge material is harbouring some nasties. After that you could also try adding in a desiccant pouch to your headphones case to help absorb any moisture (like the ones you get with a new pair of shoes).

Put your headphones (after good cleaning) in a box, together with a small glass of vinegar, and check every 6 hours if the smell is gone. Sure they smell after that like vinegar for a while. But it's a much better smell i think. Vinegar has the ability to eliminate smells.

I would replace the pads because they are probably holding onto the sweat..  I know you don't, but it's a choice to choose..

so a friend of mine said to use downey sheets. so I put them in the cups like two in each and left a few in the case, zipped it up and let it sit for about a week. cleaned them right up. no more smell thankfully!
