Follow up:
This bus powered drive has been working so reliably at home that I started using it at gigs.
So far no problems.

Good luck with a bus powered drive
I've been having good luck with a western digital my passport p/n WDBACX0010BBK-00 connected to the MEP-7000.
It's a bus powered 1 TB drive. USB 2 & 3.
I still use the old 500 MB AC powered drive and CDs/DVDs at gigs but have been using the bus powered drive also and so far no problems.

Got to say, to further back this up, I now run a Seagate GoFlex 1TB, with the eSATA upgrade cable. Runs like a dream compared to the 2TB Western Digital which was USB2.0 and AC powered....!
