RekordBox App: more than a gadget for CDJ-900/2000 owners...?

Hi all,

Maybe I don't get it, but what are the benefits of this new RB App to CDJ-900/2000 owners?

There's no RB export or RB-link/play possible from smartphone/tablet to CDJ-900/2000 and no support for WAV/AIF files. This again emphasize the use of MP3 files, which is really old-fashioned by now on professional equipment.

The time spent transferring music files from PC/MAC to smartphone/tablet and back, could be better spend in organizing your music database and setting cue/loop points directly on your PC/MAC...

Somebody who can convince me of the use of this app? Would you really go through the efforts just to do some organizing and setting cue/loop points on a mobile device?

I saw someone experimenting with a wireless router instead of a default hub in the link setup.

yeah, good question, is there ANY use for this app if we own the 2000's, can we link the 2000's to a wireless router and link this all up like you can on "the other brands" decks, etc...

as far as I figured out.. not much although you could upload/download playlists but it is soo slow.. and it took me a lot of effort to get the wifi working properly

okay I was at 91 percent of copying  my playlist when I received the message 'the connection with rekordbox is accidentally interrupted'

Confirmed on my HTC One X running android 4.04 and my HTC Desire HD also running 4.04

I think pioneer is suffering from 'we need an app' syndrome ......

I was hoping to import/export RB playlists and load them into CDJ-2000/900 as well when connected with a lan cable (was thinking this because the app shows a CDJ-2000 at the 'Load' function.

Would like to hear from someone at pioneer what we actually can do with this app and our cdjs/djm-2000

That's probably the real thing behind this.

Why , why does everything need to be able to work with a damn app...

Seriously there's nothing there's not an app for.

Agreed. what is this app for?

The mp3 files are still needed. Do we connect the portable hard drive to the mobile phone to set up cue points etc.?  The main music repository should remain as the computer (PC/MAC) and leave this app for some sort of offline arrangement tool or lookup database perhaps???

its pretty much useless for setting cue and loop points too as you cannot zoom out on the waveform.

Once tracks are imported from my iphones music folder, there is no way to remove them from within the rekordbox app.

you can zoom out on the waveform.... you need to 'pinch' horizontally within the lower waveform.

Phil, zooming out is not a lot of use, you need to be able to zoom in the get finer detail enabling you to set the cues and loops precisely. On the app you can pinch and zoom out, and then zoom back in again, but only to the standard ....

my typo in earlier post, meant to say zoom in

i think what you're asking for is the ability to zoom in even further than you can already. at the moment there isn't enough detail to see the first transient properly.

i can't see me using this app for anything other than initial novelty value. whilst the designers have done a great job on the app & GUI, the whole process of analysing / prepping files for use on a cdj 2000/900 is currently much, much better and lightyears faster on a laptop. this is mainly down to the  phone hardware though.

The focus of the app is currently for the XDJ-AERO.

As this is not the XDJ-AERO forum or product discussion, I'll just click this close button over here.
