Pro DJ Link not working with MBP and CDJ2000nxs

Our radio station just got a CDJ2000nxs and a DJM900nxs and we have one more CDJ on backorder. I am doing testing to demo for our DJs and I can't seem to get Pro DJ Link to work using a wireless router or by linking the CDJ directly to my laptop. I can see and link to the CDJ and I see my music, info, and even album art but when I try to load the song I get the e8309 error. I have double checked to make sure I got no firewall, no antivirus, no little snitch, no internet sharing. Right now I am trying to get the link to work directly with the CDJ before I try using the wireless router.

0) Have you read the "READ ME FIRST" thread in its entirety before posting: Yes

4b) Using with CDJs: CDJ2000nxs with firmware 1.22

5) Hard drive / Flash drive / SD card file system: USB and SD card works

8) Is Rekordbox crashing at all: No

8b) If not crashing, are there any error messages: e8309 on CDJ2000nxs

9) Are you able to repeat / reproduce the problem: Yes

9a) If yes, can you do it consistently: Yes

Ok just an update. I forgot I could install rekordbox on my kindle and I put some songs on it and I was able to connect to the CDJ and load songs and play them. So now I know it has to do something with my laptop and not the router I am using. Any clues?

Tried installing rekordbox on another laptop (MacBookPro with 10.6) and it works fine so I think it is either an OS issue or there is a program or plugin that is interfering with my rekordbox software. :(

It does not work well with rekordbox 2.2.4, many users here have problems. Try with an earlier version of rekordbox and it should work also on osx 10.8

Ok so I tried running Rekordbox 2.0.0 and still nothing can load from my laptop. I am attaching a etrecheck in case any of the devs wants to look at what is loaded on my system. Please ignore the RAM and CPU usage as I was encoding one my of DJs show while I was running the check.

I cut the unnecessary system info.

First, try connecting everything WIRED only - turn off the wireless. See if that allows communication between the devices.

did you try on another computer? I am wondering if the fact you are running 64 bit and RB versions are 32bit only?

I have tried on another MBP(osx 10.6), Kindle Fire, and Lenovo with Windows 7 64 bit and they all work over the wireless. I just can't seem to get rekordbox to work on my personal laptop.

"I tried that" doesn't tell me much - did it work? Didn't it work?

As stated in my original post I tried linking my laptop directly to the CDJ using the provided ethernet cable and it didn't work. I have tried all the different networking configurations I can think of and double checked all my settings on my laptop. That is why I think there is an error happening with either a kernel extension or my operating system.

Ok so I brought my work home with me this weekend and tried to look at console logs for any errors but rekordbox didn't show up in the logs. I then dragged rekordbox into xcode to try and do some debugging and this is the log. I started rekordbox and then established a link and tried to load a song on the CDJ. After the song failed to load I tried dragging a song in rekordbox to the CDJ in the link menu.

Looks like my work has paid off. As noted in the log above port 2049 was throwing an error because I had another process using that port already so it prevented Rekordbox from sharing my music. The port is crucial to sharing the music because it is nfs port. Without it you can only see your track listings but never load it. I suggest having the devs add window messages at startup that tell the user if a port that is needed is already take. It would have helped a lot.

For anyone else who has a similar issue the way to diagnose if a process is using the nfs port is by;

  1. Make sure Rekordbox and any un needed applications are closed

  2. Open network utilities from "Applications > Utilities > Network Utilities"

  3. Click on port scan

  4. In the IP Address box enter your computers IP Address which can be found in System Preferences under Network

  5. Check the box that says "Only test ports between" and enter 2049 in both boxes.

  6. Hit scan

The resulting log should read;

Port Scan has started…

Port Scanning host: 'your-ip-address-here'

Port Scan has completed…

If there is a line reading;

 Open TCP Port: 2049      xxxxxxxx

That means the port is already taken by another process.
