Use DDJ-SX as a USB external soundcard in Windows

Hello all,

SInce yesterday i'm a happy Serato DJ + DDJ-SX user :).

Can somebody tell me if it is possible to use the ddj-sx as a external soundcard for Windows when it's not used by Serato DJ?

The weird thing is that Windows sounds (clicks) i hear through the main output, however music playback trough Winamp or Video trough VLC media player doesn't work.

I checked the sound settings in Windows and they seem to be correct. Hope to hear from you and thank you in advance! :)

Thank you in advance,

Greetz Joey.

No it's set for theSX through Serato.  You can Midi map, but as an external sound card for Windows is not the direction we would recommend.

I don't understand? Are you telling me the soundcard can't be used outside of Serato or other DJ software?

If so, then why do i hear Windows 7 sounds (clicks when browsing) through my speakers!?

Kinda blown away that cheaper controllers can do this and the ddj-sx not... :S

Fixed it! i used a pair of RCA cable's from my internal soundcard and put them on channel 4! :) (so it's PC > RCA to Channel 4 > DDJ-SX > Master out > Speakers)

you can use your SX as a Windows Stereo Soundcard

 The unit gets you :

- "Master out1+2"-  You have to turn up the Master Volume.

- "Headphones"  - to Enabled press MASTER CUE on the SX and turn up the Volume

Make sure your that the "Pioneer DDJ SX"  Audio Device is set as "Default" than start your Favorit Mediaplayer and enjoy.

I use Windows 7 and Pioneer XDJ. The XDJ is set as default sound-card. VLC gets it. Firefox gets it. Chrome doesn't. I don't think there's an option or flag for this in Chrome. I do not know how to force apps that don't recognize the XDJ or similar to use it. That being said, there could very well be a (software) solution. Whilst my hardware is not exactly the same as yours, I see no wrong in using these Pioneers as sound-cards.

you get the SX work with VLC ? i tryt it many times with diffrent Versions of VLC on Windows 8.1x64 it never works for me *without Dropouts ore distortion*

I Use the WM Player that is Default in Windows, it work great to just hear musik, but the soundcard would was not developt for that Kind of "mediaplayback" functions.

I Also Notice that wen I Run Serato 1.6.3 whil Opening a Browser of Choice, the sound coming from Serato gets a little distortions at the same moment. This could be an Isue coming from Browser Addons that wana  use the Audio device from the SX at the same time as Serato is totaly Higher priority program. In this case it gave me some distortions in the Audio Output. Same Audiofile without starting any browser - all good.

@ Ole : it should be possible to set "EACH" of your programs to the "Specialy" Audio Device (just call it : Pioneer ASIO WASAPI mode ) But you have to make sure that the Device is allready turnd ON for each of that Sessions you wanna hear Audio sounds from your Controler.

It is a bit easyer for each Program to handle that by the "Default Audio device" - as it means, Windows had to explain witch soundcard your highes Preferenc is, that means also if your DDJ is not Powerd on Windows use automaticly your "onboard" Sound Card. So no Program can Crash at this Point (I guess VLC does Crash in the first x64 bit Version ... dont know why :D )

sincerely

I use XDJ-R1. I've never tried an SX.

Roy: Do you know of a technique to specify sound-card for individual applications in Windows? I'd love to know how to do that, if possible.

if you wana control it this way, you Need the "Audio-Settings" in each of your program.

If they are avalible to Configure, set up your XDJ-R1 it should work, but i never test this with the XDJ.

I use primaly the DDJ -T1 for about 2years after that time i decide to buy the SX, wich was a good choice from my Point of view.

i hope that helps you out :)

Yes. Thanks. This I know. I was wondering if you had discovered such a thing in the OS.

Bit off-topic here, but: I was thrilled when Win 7 introduced volume-faders for all open applications in the mixer.

You can only Chose wiche Audio Devices is Primary to Use. if ist Disabled ore unavalible Windows will use the next free Audio device.

eg. as i know its not possible to run Windows Mediaplayer and get an Output on 2 soundcards without Routing it separatly (like in ASIO4ALL etc.)

You can set that Separatly in the Mediaplayer it self (in case Windows Mediaplayer is preffering the Default Audio Settings nothing more ... ) but in Some mediaplayers like VLC you can choose the other soundcard as your VLC Default.

hope it helps, and yes its off Topic but ...helpy ?
