CDJ-2000: CD-Audio waveforms on SD card + Pro DJ Link to other CDJ

@Pasi > You can place audio files on both the SD card and USB stick and access it from the player. If you pre-analyse your files with Rekordbox or they are an uncompressed file format then the waveforms should load instantly when you call up the track. I'm really lost as to your first point, I don't know what you are doing / trying to achieve. What source are you playing from? Is it CD?

Thanks for the reply. I'm not talking about mp3/wav files. I'm talking about playing normal audio-CD discs. Both of my questions are related to audio-CD discs and waveforms of them.

At least in my environment I'd like to have the CD-audio disc waveforms always, and only, on the SD card, because the SD card can always be in the CDJ, there's no need to change it often.

For MP3/wav files I'll use USB sticks, so rekordbox will store the waveforms for them on the USB stick. Then again if some non-rekordbox-user attaches his USB stick to CDJ, the waveforms for those mp3/wav files should be generated/stored on the USB stick together with the files.

Summary: I'd like to have these two settings available in CDJ-2000:

1) Store CD-audio disc waveforms always on SD card.

2) Store audio-file (mp3/wav) waveforms on the same media as where the files are.

@Pasi > I believe it currently defaults to the USB device (if both SD and USB are present), whereas if you have multiple USBs available via link, it will ask you where you want to store the waveforms, but only for USB.  I'll talk to the engineers about SD options.

Waveforms from Rekordbox tracks are always stored with the media they're from; in other words, you don't need to worry about "storing" the waveforms from a USB device, it's paired automatically and doesn't re-store it anywhere.

Maybe a setting like this: Store Audio-CD disc waveforms: [SD,USB].

So you could toggle it "[SD,USB]" or "[USB,SD]", depending on what you want.

Btw how about the second question (in the original post)? Are cd-audio disc waveforms shared over pro-dj-link ? I've tried that, but I'm not really sure if that happens or not.. currently I think it's not implemented/working.

No, audio CDs are not able to be shared over the link.

I didn't mean sharing audio CDs.. only the waveforms!

waveforms meaning the graph of the track.. it's annoying when playing audio-cd discs and it takes a long time until the whole graph of the waveform is loaded from the audio-cd for the new track.

And the next time when you play the track it could be you place the CD-disc to the other CDJ-2000, so it'd be good if CDJ could fetch the waveform graph over Pro DJ Link from the *other* CDJ which already has the waveform graph stored on the USB/SD.

As the waveform is stored to the USB device; yes, it can.

I think I tested with only SD-card plugged in to CDJ.. so no USB. Maybe that's why it seemed sharing waveform graphs over Pro Dj Link didn't seem to work..

So there was a miscommunication and misunderstanding as to what I was asking and what the engineers thought I was asking, and oddly enough, while I was doing something else tonight ... I found the solution to the problem of being able to select where the cues are stored for an audio CD!

When you have a CD loaded, you press the MENU button and provided your CDJs are linked, you'll see the CUE LINK menu with an entry for AUTO, the SD and USB sources for the local deck, but also any sources connected to the linked decks.  Selecting either the USB or SD source from the local or linked deck will force waveform data and memory points to be written to that specific source.

So there we have it, better late than never.  Hope that works for you @Pasi!
