It's entirely possible the cable was bad, there was a bent pin in the jack or there was some other problem with the CDJs (such as both players having the same player number or a hardware failure).
I was using a 2xCDJ 2000 and DJM Nexus mixer in a venue the other day and there was no link cable between the two decks so I couldn't share my USB HDD over both the decks. Luckily I had a spare Ethernet cable in my glovebox. When plugging the two together I pressed Link but the 2nd deck wouldn't link. At home I never have this issue. Could it have been the network cable? Or could it be a CDJ fault?

The cable was new, I never though of both players having the same player number, if I play there again I will check it out. Thanks
