XDJ-RX USB Stop

Hello guys,

I have noticed that when I press and hold the USB stop button on the controller to safely remove the hard disk, the red light goes off on the controller, the hard disks seems disconnected from the controller but the power on light of the external hard disk is still on and I also hear the hard disk spinning meaning that there is still power flow to the hard disk. If I disconnect the hard disk at this point then I hear the sound that you should avoid hearing when disconnecting hard disks.

The external hard disk I am using is a Western Digital Ultra 1 TB and I bought it 3 days ago.

For your records, when I connect the hard disk to my laptop and I choose safely remove, the light of the hard disk goes off and the parts inside the hard disk stop moving (nothing to hear).

It seems that although I am pressing the USB stop button there is still power flowing to the hard disk.

Can you please have a look on this and advise?

Thank you,

Kyriacos

It is safe to remove your drive after you have pressed STOP and the light goes out. The fact power is still flowing means the read-head is still out over the platters of the drive when you disconnect it. The sound you hear is the heads parking themselves. There is nothing wrong with that process. What the STOP mechanism does is ensure that all of the files in use have been closed and are not in use when you disconnect the drive, which would otherwise cause data corruption and possibly damage the file system.

Thanks for the answer Pulse however I am not 100% confident that it will not cause damage to the hard disk.

Why then, when I safely remove the hard disk from the laptop all the moving parts inside the hard disk stop moving or are already parked, the hard disk light goes off and the same scenario does not happen on the XDJ-RX?

Can you please check with the engineers this? Would like to know their answer.

Thanks,

Kyriacos

is het ook schadelijk voor de pioneer xdj rx zelf als je de usb niet veilig verwijderd of is het alleen schadelijk voor je bestanden op je usb

Only harmful to the USB drive; the XDJ-RX itself can't be damaged in any way by this process.
