Rekordbox Still Not Syncing to iTunes After Sharing iTunes XML??

Hi everyone,

Rekordbox isn't syncing to itunes, I have spent hours reading threads and making the "fix" changes including allowing itunes library XML to be shared with other applications and still nothing.

I have tried the sync function as well as the drag and drop option but nothing will work, I have no idea what to do please help.

** I did this below and still nothing ***

--Some users have reported issues after upgrading to iTunes 12.2 and attempting to use the sync to rekordbox. Our rekordbox team has found that the XML behaviour of iTunes has changed, and as a result, the playlist tree was not updating properly within rekordbox.

To resolve this issue, please open iTunes and open the Preferences. Click Advanced and select Share iTunes Library XML with other applications.

I just got started with Rekordbox 4 since I got XDJ-1000's last month, but am also not getting all of my Itunes tracks imported. They show up in Rekordbox and the playlists can be synced but most of the tracks cannot be loaded because they can't be found. Oddly enough some tracks are able to load. So less than half of the tracks are synced.

I can only find info on Rekordbox 3. I tried version 3, but it's the same deal. Also most of the posts are from last summer. I would think by now this issue would be resolved...

Is downgrading Itunes still the only solution?

Have you guys selected the correct iTunes Library.xml file in Rekordbox Advanced Preferences?

Hi Beekir,

How do we know it's the right one? There only seems to be one option to select in the drop down menu which is the one I've selected.

@BennyD,

If you click "Browse" and select the only XML file that appears, then you will have picked the right one.

I just remember that when I first setup Rekordbox, the default filename was set wrong and I had to browse & select it.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

@Beekir,

Yep that's what I've done so unfortunately its not that :(

I can't seem to get a response from Pioneer support either, I submitted a support request 3 days ago now and still nothing.

Very frustrating.

Thanks for your response anyway Beekir really appreciated.

@Benny > If you're still using rekordbox 3.x, that's the likely problem as changes have been made in 4.x to accommodate the updates Apple has made to iTunes.

@Pulse - so I need to upgrade to rekordbox 4? I thought that was the new dj software not management. I'll upgrade and see how it goes. Thanks.

@Beny > It does both; you can opt to use it in the "EXPORT" mode, which is basically the same as what you're using now with 3.x. You don't need to enter a serial or activate the trial, there is no need to pay to use 4.x.

@Pulse - I just installed rekordbox 4 and exactly the same thing as version 3, folders are showing in the right hand side bar but when you click on them and a playlist they have some circle arrow symbol and the playlists are empty? I checked preferences for the XML file and it is selected under itunes and rekordbox preferences?

It shows tracks under recently added strangely but all other playlists are there but empty.

@Pulse - I think I got it working. I got the tracks to show now just trying to add to SD card. I will let you know.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your help I thought I was toast!

I was going to ask if you checked that the lists are ticked in the sync manager or if you're accessing them directly through the tree.

Yep - I had to manually right click and manually import the playlists. All up and running.

Thanks!

I keep getting message that "one or more files were not imported. Check the log saved in the Documents folder". Why are these tracks not imported? They are either MP3, ALAC AIFF, WAV or AAC formats.

Here I see it: either because of the wrong format, or if the file path is longer than 255 characters. I guess it's the last one. How do I resolve that? Why is it limited to 255 characters?

@Bart > That's a limitation of most operating systems, not the rekordbox program. Try moving the files first or renaming something in the path.

Thank you for your answer!

Do you think it would be possible to rename (the) Itunes Media (folder) to just Media? Or even M?

You certainly could, or you can use my suggestion which is to not allow iTunes to manage your music; store it elsewhere and dump it into iTunes if you must.

So I already have all my music on a NAS Synology server. Lately I have been having problems with Itunes, and have been reorganising my files and folders because it was a big mess. Now all the music is in the Media folder, but I keep getting messages of broken links, that certain tracks need to be located. This happens almost every week, and I have to reboot Itunes with the alt key down and locate the Library ITL file to get everything back in order. Syncing my Ipod Classic is also with loads of error messages of tracks that could not be imported for some reason. So perhaps its the same thing as you say that the 255 characters are too long for most systems. The path to the music folder is too long and needs to be shortened. So on my Synology HD I have a Music folder, which contains an Itunes folder, which contains the Media folder and then the Music folder where the actual music is with artist/album/song. So that's 7 folders to reach the file. Would I get better results I were to rename and move the last Music folder right next to the first Music folder? Or does it need to remain inside the Itunes folder where the ITL file currently is? What would be the best structure for the folders do you think?

@pulse - the tracks seem to be syncing with itunes now but for some reason the playlist order is being changed. I used to order my playlists how I liked them in itunes and then sync with rekordbox and it would carry them over exactly. Now for some reason rekordbox is adjusting the playlist orders however it likes. Is there something I can do to fix this too?

Unfortunately iTunes changed their XML spec a few months ago and ditched the output of the track order, so unfortunately there's nothing Pioneer can do to retrieve the playlist order from iTunes until Apple changes it back.

Is there something I can do in rekordbox to adjust the playlists to how I like them? So essentially re-order them in rekordbox manually - would that work? Is there a user friendly way to do it?

You CAN manually re-order them in rekordbox via drag-and-drop ordering, just sort by the number column (one of the left-most columns; if it's hidden, just try dragging it out from the left edge between the tracks and the tree on the left pane).

Oh, and if you want to have them remembered in a certain order then change it - select any of the other columns (eg. BPM) and then right-click the column headers and click "Renumber Track Order," that will store that sort as the new numerical order, which you can then drag-and-drop to reorder.
