When did this start occurring? Was it like this from when you first bought the unit? Was any liquid or anything spilled around the shift button ever to your knowledge? That sounds like a very weird bug, but you can try cleaning around the button with something like CAIG contact cleaner and see if that helps. You can also try reflsahing the firmware on the unit in a safe way. If that doesn't help, I'm not sure what else you could do besides get it in for service.
