I just bought a Pioneer DDJ SX on Craigslist. The controller powers up just fine. I'm trying to install the drivers and firmware so I can DJ with Serato / Rekordbox on my laptop.
The driver installs without error. I put my SX into update mode by pressing sync + cue + power button. The master level lights start blinking. I have Java installed. When I try to run the .jar file to install the firmware, I get an error:
Updater Program: Your DDJ-SX is not connected.
The DDJ SX is powered up in update mode and I have a USB A to B cable connecting the controller to my PC. When I plug in the cable (which is brand new) I can hear feedback produced from the speakers connected on my RCA cables so I imagine the cable is being recognized by the controller.
The USB port also must work fine because other devices I plug in are recognized.
I see that the driver explicitly specifies compatibility with Windows 10. Does the firmware not support Windows 10?
I am on a 16 GB RAM Lenovo. Intel quad core i7 8th generation processor. 500 GB of solid state storage + 2 GB dedicated Nvidia graphics card.
Could it be that the USB A to B cable is the wrong cable? It seems to fit and it is brand new.

Anyone out there using Serato or Rekordbox on Windows 10 on a used Pioneer DDJ SX who had to go through these steps?

Also, this is not quite applicable yet, but I figure if I can get the most up to date firmware installed, I will be able to use the most up to date versions of Serato and Rekordbox as well? Can I use my SX with the free versions of these software or will I need to purchase a license?
Thanks!
