DJM S3 and Serato Pro DJ

I jüst purchased the DJM-S3 mixer (registered it) and running it with my two technics turntables (MK2s). Additionally, I downloaded all the latest drivers and firmware for all products. Further, I am using a MacBook Pro that was updated last night (Mojave 10.14.4).

The issue is I can play the music in the through mode (internal) and play regular vinyl records. But, I can not use the decks in absolute or relevant mode. Finally, when I check my threshold I just see a dot. Even when I am checking the threshold and a track is loaded I do not see any circular wave forms! USB is new and the decks were internally grounded approximately two years ago. Any help with be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear that, but it's your choice. Best of luck with your future equipment choice.

Do you hear the timecode when you play serato records?

After I posted this question I was on YouTube and noticed a tutorial regarding expansion packages. I’m wondering if i
Need to purchase th expansion pack to be able to run my control vinyl in absolute or relative. Do you know if I need to purchase an expansion package???

https://serato.com/dj/hardware/pioneer-djm-s3

Scroll down a little. It says DVS is enabled once you have the DJM S3 some of the other hardware notes you need I purchase the serato DVS enabler.

One more thing on the product information (hardware) on the serato website it notes I do not need to purchase the DVS expansion package. But, when I go to the software on my computer (Serato DJ Pro) when I click on my expansion package there is no option for Vinyl/CDJ Control. So either what is posted on the serato website is not updated and I do need to purchase an expansion package and the DJM S3 no longer unlocks the serato DVS package or there is a problem with my decks although I do not think there is an issue with my decks. Ill keep you posted later this week. have to work later. If I start messing with my system Ill be on there for hours trying to figure it out!

@Ray > You simply need to open the Serato DJ preferences and see that the DVS mode is available; you don't need to add it anywhere. There are a couple of other things to change; did you follow the quick-start guide? Also note that these should be configured for PHONO in the S3 setting utility:

Are you part of the support? Because I was dealing with some1 need Chez Panapa and he offered no help. He sent me to a trouble shooting page and asked for me to send him a copy of my system profiler which I did and he never got back to me or offered any professional technical support other than like I said directing me to 2 different links.

The DJM S3 did not and does not unlock DVS. I dowloaded the latest firmware and drivers several times, my Mac is updated, I followed the midi configuration to a T etc etc. Again no support was offered I had to fumble with this stuff for days to find out that I would need to probably upgrade (pay more) for serato DJ Pro DVS enabler to even check if it would run successfully only turntables.

And for those of you reading this post, again these people offer no support other then sending you some links....

@Ray > Yes, I'm with the Pioneer DJ support team, but I have no idea who Chez Panapa is.

The S3 ABSOLUTELY DOES unlock DVS mode without any additional purchase, and you can see there is currently a promotion offered that includes 7" Serato DJ timecode:

If you're on High Sierra or Mojave, and you haven't checked this box in your Security & Privacy settings, you need to make sure you did that as well - you might have missed the pop-up asking you to allow it:

Of course I did that too. Additionally, I used the little control vinyls the mixer came with, bought new control vinyls, and it still would not run my decks in the absolute or relative mode. I know its not my decks because I changed everything out from RCAs, needles and cartridges, trying them out on a friends system, playing regular vinyl records etc., etc.

But, of course you will say there is a step I am missing or I did something wrong. I will return the mixer tomorrow for a refund. Thanks for the response.

Two questions for you...

1) When connected, does the DJM-S3 appear on the Audio Devices list in the Audio MIDI Setup app?

2) Did you try using the S3 on a different computer?

In regards to #1 yes. I did everything correctly in regards to my midi set up. I also did that (midi configuration) several times. I have been messing with turntables and mixers for a very long time although its not my primary job. In regards to #2, no, I only have one Lap Top. The issue is not my computer. The issue is that the S3 mixer does not allow me to use my DVS with Serato DJ Pro. Good day....

@Ray > No, not MIDI - I mean the AUDIO DEVICES window (Audio MIDI Setup is the name of the app). Can you confirm that?

And yes, it most certainly does - this is my primary job, and I know it allows for DVS use out-of-the-box.

Well of course you will go back and fourth with me on this forum and keep asking me queries as if I am missing a step because people can google this issue and see our dialect. Yes, I did got through the audio midi set-up (on my computer).

Of course I go back and forth with you ... I'm trying to get answers!

Can you post a screenshot of it with the S3 connected?

Nope. the mixer will be returned tomorrow and besides all the connections were placed correctly. I have already reboxed it. Again, I did everything correctly according to the directions, information posted online through serato, watching YouTube videos (or was it it correct for me to watch a YouTube vids?), and my over 30 years of messing with this stuff.
