Because the DJM-900NXS2 is our top-level mixer and was never intended as a rekordbox performance mode device, which is why a key was never included before. The majority of installations or buyers were using this with a pair of CDJ-2000 (or NXS / NXS2) as a stand-alone system, and in many of those cases, the users were not the buyers (eg. a club install), so it was considered equipment that required a purchase to unlock performance mode, and has remained such in rekordbox 6. We have asked the product teams to consider this but haven't heard anything back yet.

@Pulse.

Good to hear that it has been asked to the product teams. While I know that the DJM-900NXS2 never came with a license for rekordbox DJ, this argument of the top level mixer doesn't work anymore.
The DJM-750MK2 is an unlock device and the new top level mixer DJM-V10 is as well. The 900NXS2 stuck in the middle in a dead end. This isn't consistant anymore.
I am owning the DJM-900NXS2 and licenses for rekordbox DJ and DVS. Mostly I am in the standalone mode but sometimes I go with the performance mode.
The usage is not enough to go with a subscription model and being stuck with an old version is not nice (saying it politely). For now rekordbox 5 is still ok - no doubt, but how long...

Hope that the product team is considering this.

Thanks

PS: not sure how to convince new customers to buy a new DJM-900NXS2 without it, if the lower and higher end devices are unlock devices but not the 900NXS2. In my opinion hard to explain....

You also need to consider that when the DJM-900NXS2, no other mixers had a license either. It was devices released after this point that included them, and that's one of the reasons the V10 (and all products moving forward) will include it.

Hi Pulse,
thanks for replying.

I get that and I never would have complained about it. I accepted to purchase the rekordbox DJ & DVS license.
But having the rekordbox 6 launch in conjunction with the new service model it turns it a bit upside down.

I would not see it as Pioneer DJ MUST do this but more like awarding customers of the top line equipment. As this equipment is mostly used for standalone, in my opinion Pioneer is not really losing business by providing this - let's see it as a Bonus to loyal clients.

I assume - and you stated it that way - probably all new equipment would be an unlock device anyway. In the sense of gaining confidence to the clients.
i.e. my XDJ-1000MK1's are due for a replacement - at least I am planing for that. I am even thinking of going to the top level devices. It was more or less a no brainer to wait for the next announcements from Pioneer DJ to stay within the same platform. But with all the changes happened lately with rekordbox 6 (Service model, no XML export) I am starting to rethink this. I know the competition got their issues too but I see it more as a strategic decision where to place my money in the future. And this has to do with confidence and trust.

Just want to share my thoughts from a client perspective. Feel free to share it with your Sales Team. I assume they are interested how their clients feel. At least I hope they are and care ;-)

Thanks again

I get it - believe me, I'm on your side and feel the software should have been included with all hardware, but I'm not the one making the business decisions.
